1. Finally, finally Bruce is able to go to the dentist and get that abscess worked on. wow, this got long )

2. We went to the store today and I got an orange to eat while walking to the bus stop and it was really delicious. It's not orange season anymore so we've been pretty disappointed with any we've had lately, even from the farmers' market, and I wasn't expecting much from this one since it was on sale for 50 cents a pound and produce on sale at the grocery store nearly always means it's not that good (sometimes if you're lucky it's rotted already or has spiders in it!). So that was a very pleasant surprise. I only wish I'd got more!

3. Yesterday I finished the doujinshi I was working on. I'm pleased with myself that I managed to do it in two days and not stretch it out forever. I'd told the person I was translating it for that I'd have it done by the end of the week and I finished before the deadline I'd set. Go me! This hardly ever happens!

4. I started writing fic last night. If I can finish it (we'll see if I can get my momentum back after setting it down) it will be the first thing I've written all year. I'm hopeful! (Also I have a fic due for [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest due on the 30th, ack, so maybe this will get me in a writing mode.)

5. My mom came over yesterday to put stuff in our garage and took our piles of charity stuff while she was here, yay. And tonight we cleaned out another drawer in the kitchen.

6. This new Maru video makes me very happy.

7. Angie Zapata's killer was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Her killer was also the first person convicted of a hate crime against a trans person, which is a sad state of affairs considering how many trans people have been the victims of hate crimes, but hopefully a sign that things are changing for the better.

Hey, here are some links, too.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I have been following this mess from the beginning and thought it had died down, but no, apparently people are still going on about how Erika Moen is awesome and trans people just need to stfu because they have no sense of humor and shouldn't they be concentrating on more important issues anyway? There are some good comments in there, though (including a couple by a poster named Grace who is totally not me, but is saying good things!). (This is unrelated to Erika Moen's comic, but is more trans fail from white cis feminists, who are apparently falling over themselves to agree with Focus on the Fucking Family about the evils of trans women using women's restrooms.)

[livejournal.com profile] alchemia has an awesome, link-filled post about autism rights and the portrayal of autistics in fiction and non-fiction. I think I will link it on Facebook, too, since just the other day someone on my flist there sent a message to all her contacts about an autism walk she was participating in to raise money for NTs Speak to Other NTs About Autism While Silencing Autistic People Autism Speaks.

By Monday I still hadn't watched last week's Pushing Daisies, so I just decided to save it and watch last week's and this week's together.

Wow, Pushing Daisies was the only show this week (well, Simpsons is tomorrow, I think, and maybe Family Guy). It's nice not to feel like I have a bunch of stuff I need to watch. I think Ugly Betty and SGA will be back next week, but SPN is off til mid-January, by which time SGA will be over (and maybe Pushing Daisies, too, depending on how they space out the remaining episodes). I'm sure I will eventually get sucked into watching some other current show, though. Despite everyone and their mother being into Merlin, it doesn't interest me at all as a fandom show (I don't feel like reading or writing historical fic, regardless of how anachronistic it is (or perhaps even more so because)). Also I went through my King Arthur phase already when I was a teenager. I am interested in RPS, though, just because they boys are so wee and adorkable. (This is your cue to rec some!)

Anyway, so Pushing Daisies )

I tried watching Entourage, but the first episode was really not doing it for me. I forgot that I hate stories about Hollywood and obnoxious entitled rich people*. Well, I didn't forget, but the stuff I read about the show didn't make me think it would be like that for some reason. And then the episode cut off before the beginning, and I looked at the rest of the files in the torrent and saw it was missing one ep and had doubles of another, and that the quality on the remaining episodes was really bad... So I don't know. I may just give up there.

*This is why almost all of the RPS I write is AU. I just...have no interest in celebrities or lifestyles of the rich and famous.

It was awesome last night, as usual. And then I read this. D: Cancelled. And not even getting a full season, but likely cancelled after episode thirteen, which, to make matters worse, will be a cliff-hanger. Waaaaaaah!

Today I am happy about Pushing Daisies. I had heard about this show a while back and thought wow, that sounds like a manga, and then Bruce downloaded season one and, as often happens with TV, it sat on my hard drive for ages.

Tonight I was sweaty from taking a shower and couldn't put my glasses on because they kept fogging up, so I thought I'd watch some TV, as I've found that if I have my laptop on my lap and the video at full screen I can watch it comfortably without glasses on. Out of all the stuff I have sitting on my hard drive, I decided to give Pushing Daisies a try and OMG IT IS SO AWESOME.

It IS just like a manga. For serious. A guy can touch someone and bring them back to life, but if they're alive for longer than a minute someone else dies? And if he touches them again they die? Manga. A PI sees him accidentally use his powers and decides it's a great way to solve cases and they form a partnership where they bring dead people back to life for under a minute so they can find out who murdered them? Manga. Totally, totally manga. Everything about this show is like a manga and it is so, so cool. I love the narration, and the crackiness of the world (Darling Mermaid Darlings? Boutique Travel Travel Boutique?).

I am all asquee about it. So far only nine eps to watch (well, eight now), as the first season was cut short due to the strike, but season two is starting in October, yay.

(I really wish the shows that are really awesome (this, Ugly Betty) and the shows that have big fandoms (SGA, SPN) were one and the same. I do enjoy the latter two, but they have so many problems in so many areas, and while neither this nor Ugly Betty are perfect, they sure are a lot better.)
