What are you currently reading?
I am reading several things! Like, actively!

It took me a while to get into a book after finishing Cuckoo Song because I had been so into that that it was hard to start something new and nothing really called out to me. But I just picked a book on my iphone at random the other day and that was Hiromi Goto's Half World. I remember seeing a lot of recs for it years ago, but I didn't remember anything about it at all. I read the prologue and then a few day passed and I didn't do any reading, but then last night at the hospital I had nothing to do but read, so I ended up reading almost half of it! I'm enjoying it a lot and will definitely be checking out other books by the author. (I think I have one on my iphone already.)

I also just started reading one of my library books today, Christopher Emdin's For White Folks Who Teach in the Hood. I had seen this somewhere online just a few days ago and then when we were at the library there it was on the new non-fiction shelf, so I picked it up. I just read the intro so far, but it seems interesting. Although I'm usually slower with physical books than ebooks, I really want to read this before I have to return it in two weeks, so I'm going to try and read every day.

Mangawise, I'm not reading anything right now, but I am reading my backlog of Bob's Burgers issues. I do enjoy these comics, though I don't think they're quite as good as the show (for one thing, they focus only on the kids and while the kids are my favorite characters, I like Bob and Linda and other adult characters as well and like the more integrated stories of the show).

What did you recently finish reading?
I finished Ore Monogatari!! vol. 11, Koi-iji vol. 3, and Musume no Iede vol. 4, all of which were awesome. It was nice to have Musume no Iede to go into after Koi-iji, when I was feeling like I needed more Shimura Takako. Oh, also a single-volume manga called Cake wo Kai ni by Kawauchi Haruka. No idea where I picked this up, but it was cute. A bunch of one-shots linked by a local bakery.

I also read two Homestuck fics, In Which Dirk Strider Tries And Mostly Fails To Contain His Internal Dialogue, As Usual by [ profile] LandOfMistAndSecrets and coming out of the closet and i've been doing just [ profile] paradoxmachine, Dirk-centric and Dave-centric, respectively, both written and set after the end of the series. I especially enjoyed the former, though the second one was good, too, if a little more in need of editing (either the author originally wrote it in second person and changed it or is used to writing in second person and kept slipping, because there are a lot of places where it randomly changes from third person to second).

What do you think you'll read next?
I don't knooooow. Bookwise, I probably won't finish what I'm on before the next post, and mangawise, I am feeling a bit adrift right now. I might focus on going through my comic backlog some more after Bob's Burgers.

What are you currently reading?
Nothing! I suppose I should have quickly started something before this post so that I could have something to say here, but I didn't.

What did you recently finish reading?
Well, I finally read something other than Night Vale fic, because I finished all the Night Vale fic on my phone and have not yet gone to find more. Especially since finding more this time requires wading through AO3, since I've run out of recs.

Recs: 3 Night Vale, 1 Shingeki no Kyojin, 1 Homestuck )

I also finally got caught up on Jump! I had like seven issues to read. ^_^;; I'm enjoying Toriyama Akira's new series, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman. It's typical Toriyama humor, and the art is fantastic. Toriyama's art (Dragon Ball in particular) is one of the things that got me into manga and he's still one of my favorite artists.

I'm also liking the current One Piece storyline more now that the focus is shifting away from Luffy's battles to what's going on with Dressrosa.

What do you think you'll read next?
Really not sure. Could be more fic, could be manga. It's unlikely to be a book, though. That much I feel pretty certain about. :p (Though I suppose I should read at least a few more books before the year is up, since I think I've only read two so far, which is an all-time low.)
torachan: aradia from homestuck (aradia)
What are you currently reading?
Still stalled out on Draco Sinister. Though now that I've caught up on Welcome to Night Vale, I'll be getting back to it soon. Night Vale was taking up all my "reading in bed" time this past week.

What did you recently finish reading?
Several recent issues of Jump. I'm feeling rather meh about Naruto and Bleach at the moment, though One Piece is still enjoyable. World Trigger is okay. I read the first chapter of Toriyama Akira's new series and it seems fun? I would rather read it in Japanese, but figure since I've already got the English Jump subscription I might as well just read it there.

I also read some fanfic! Well, one anyway. I thought I'd read more, but it turns out they were last week. The one I read was really cute, though! If you like Homestuck or just '30s femslash, you should take a look!

What do you think you'll read next?
Well, after getting caught up with Night Vale, I'd really like to read some fic, but I have no idea where to start. If you have any recs, please comment! I looked through a couple pages on AO3, but got overwhelmed and closed the tab without clicking on anything. There is a lot of fic there already!
torachan: nepeta from homestuck (nepeta)
What are you currently reading?
Well, I'm sure you'll all be surprised to hear I am reading Kindaichi yet again. :p I'm on volume 21 and this volume finishes off the current case, so I think I will attempt to take a break for a bit after this.

Anyway, the case in question is The Magical Express, which is the first case to introduce Takato, a Moriarty-like character who will become a recurring villain for the rest of the series (even appearing in several of the new cases, though not (yet) in the 20th anniversary series).

Since I remembered his name, I knew he was the killer, but I don't remember anything else about the case, so while I know who did it, I don't know how or anything else, so it's still fun to read.

What did you recently finish reading?
I read this week's Jump and wasn't that excited about anything.

I also managed to finish up my library book right before it was due to expire. And I ended up really enjoying it! I wish the rest of the books in the series were out now. We'll see if I remember it when they actually do get released.

As I mentioned last week, the book was The Twelve-Fingered Boy by John Hornor Jacobs. I keep trying to think of something to write for a review and nothing is coming. I rated it four stars on Good Reads and left the review section blank. :-/ (I think I'm burned out on reviewing stuff, idk. I just feel like I have nothing to say anymore...)

Anyway, it's a YA novel about teenage boys with superpowers. It's fun and decently-written and sucked me in pretty quickly.

Oh, and I also read another cute Dave/Karkat fic:

Karkat and Dave stumble into moirallegiance.

What do you think you'll read next?
No idea. I'd really like to read another book and I have the second Newsflesh book open in ibooks, so maybe that? (I've read the first couple chapters already back in November or something, but just wasn't feeling it. I do want to read the rest of the series, though.)
torachan: karkat from homestuck looking bored (karkat bored)
What are you currently reading?
Kindaichi again, of course. :) I'm currently on vol. 19, so I'm getting close to the end of the original series. (I plan on reading the second series, too, though probably not any of the newer ones after that, since it's only been a few years since I read them.)

I'm also reading a book! I mentioned this book either last week or the week before as something I'd checked out from the library, and then I just let it sit there and suddenly realised a couple days ago that, oops, I'd better actually read it or it was going to expire.

It's a young adult fantasy novel called The Twelve-Fingered Boy by John Hornor Jacobs. It's the first book in a trilogy, natch, since no one can ever write a stand-alone book anymore, and apparently just came out last month (which I guess was why it was on the first page of the library's ebooks list when I was browsing), so if I end up wanting to read the rest, there will be a wait, boo.

I've only read the first few chapters so far, but it's okay? I'm not in love with it, but I didn't really expect to be.

What did you recently finish reading?
Aside from the Kindaichi case I was reading last week, I also read volume one of a new manga series called Kono Oto Tomare, which is an adorable series about a high school koto club.

I also read this week's Jump, which was only Bleach and World Trigger, since Naruto and One Piece were off. Iiinteresting developments in Bleach. I'm enjoying this flashback a lot.

I also read a fic!

hey there bright-eyed mister melancholy (2338 words) by attentionmerrymakers

This was super adorkable! I never gave much thought to Dave/Karkat before, but their interaction in recent updates has just been too cute. Speakercrab!

What do you think you'll read next?
Well, I have six days left on that library book, so hopefully I will finish that up. I also have a few more Dave/Karkat fics I want to check out, and of course there's always more Kindaichi.
torachan: ewan mcgregor pulling his glasses down to look over the top (ewan glasses)
If I do this before I go to bed, it's still Wednesday!

What are you currently reading?
Aoi Hana! I'm nearly done with volume five, which is nearing the last of what I've read, I think. I read some magazine chapters, but I don't remember how many. For some reason it's not easy to find raws for this series (even though people are posting scanlations of the magazine chapters).

It's been fun to read this again and all in one go like this. However, I am disappointed to find that reading it all in one go does not make it easier to keep track of stuff. A little bit, definitely, but not all of the problems I had were due to forgetting stuff. I find the large cast hard to distinguish, but the biggest problem is that the story jumps around a lot with nothing to signify that it's a flashback or that months have passed or whatever.

Still, I really love it a lot and will be sad to reach the end of what I have here (just two more volumes). At least volume eight should be out in a couple months and then all this will be fresh in my mind. :)

What did you recently finish reading?
I am now caught up with all my Jump series! Bleach spoilers )

I also read about ten chapters of Silver Spoon and it continues to be the most adorable series ever. I love it so much! Oh, but I also read vol. 18 of Kimi ni Todoke, which is also super adorable!

I also read some fanfic this week!

Stitching Up Boys (21699 words) by Edoro

This is a really interesting fic! Great Gamzee voice. It appears to be part of a series, but it's the backstory and the "present day" part of the story doesn't really interest me, so I don't think I'll read the rest, but this was cool.

This was written for me for [community profile] white_lotus! I love the domesticity of it.

What do you think you'll read next?
The rest of Aoi Hana for sure, and then I don't know.
torachan: a drawing of harry potter looking sad (emo harry)
Man, I have really not been reading fic much at all these days, but I do read something here and there and have collected some reviews. They mostly kind of suck as reviews, as I can't seem to think of much to say, especially when it's something I read a while back and made the mistake of not reviewing at the time (because I didn't have the energy) and now I've forgotten what it was about. >_<

I like the idea of keeping a record of everything I read, but feeling like I have to review after everything I read has made me avoid reading, I think (though that's not the only reason I haven't been reading fic; a large part of it is just that I have just been reading books or manga instead). Meh. :-/

9 reviews: 1 each of Glee, Homestuck, Hot Fuzz, Nobuta wo Produce, and Supernatural, 2 each of Bandom and Harry Potter )
torachan: karkat from homestuck looking bored (karkat bored)
Wow, I totally assumed the two Sky Captain fics of mine that were remixed were by the same person, but apparently two totally different people were interested in remixing Sky Captain! Anyway, I haven't read any other remixes than the ones written for me, but I do have a bunch of other reviews piling up, so I figured I'd post them all.

Remix reviews: Sky Captain, Harry Potter, Supernatural )

Non-Remix reviews: Korra, Homestuck, LotRiPS, New Girl, SGA )
