So, years ago I did a meme where I posted my favorite songs beginning with each letter of the alphabet and because I have too many favorite songs, it got really ridiculous with the amount of songs per letter. It became so overwhelming that it took me two years to get it almost all posted, but I still never finished. I had all the songs picked out, but just hadn't uploaded them all or made the posts, and I've had the last three letters sitting in a folder for almost three years. D: When I decided I was going to do this 100 Things thing, I promised myself I would get these last three letters posted!

So here are the Ls (I posted stuff out of order when I was doing this). There are 50 songs, so I'm not doing any commentary or anything, just...these are songs starting with L that I considered some of my favorites in 2007 when I wrote up this thing. XD

All the previous posts can be found in the "alphabetical favorites" tag, but I have long since deleted the actual mp3s from my server. If you see anything in there you'd like me to reupload, just let me know and I'll be happy to do so.

Only three more letters left of this! I think it's been like two years since I started this meme, guys! (Haha, omg, it really has. I did the first letter in August of 2007. D:) I'm ready for it to be over!

Except I'm tempted to redo it with songs I've discovered in the meantime... XD

Oh hey, I finally got another of these lists written up! Only four letters to go after this.

This one seems more Japanese-heavy than previous lists. All those kimi and kaze and kimochi songs.

Oh man, how long has it been since I did one of these alphabet posts? Wow, it looks like the last one was R in September. O_o

Since there are probably a lot of people who didn't even have me friended back then, much less when I started this, I'll give a little explanation. Back in August of 2007 (damn, has it been that long?) there was one of those memes where you get a letter and you pick your favorite five songs or whatever. Well, there was no way I could limit it to just five, so I chose like 30 or 40 for the letters I was given. And I liked it so much I decided to do the whole alphabet.

So the lists were actually all created back then (and thus don't reflect any new favorites I've discovered since then!), but because I write a little blurb about each one, it's ended up taking me nearly two years to finish the whole alphabet. In fact, I still have I, K, L, P, and T to go after this.

I've deleted all the old stuff, but if you're curious about the songs, they can all be found in the "alphabetical favorites" tag and I'm happy to reup anything you want.

60 songs! )

I also have an album post coming up sometime in the near future. I already uploaded the albums, just need to write about them...

I think I had requests for R and T next, and since R was shorter...

It's that time again!

I also have a few things I've uploaded by request:

Tegami Letter is a Digimon drama CD. Probably not of interest to many, but I figured I uploaded it, so I might as well share the link.

Yuzu's Going and Home albums are two best ofs that have almost all their best songs. Great introduction to the band.

Hana Hana's 2 Souls has Sayonara Daisuki na Hito and Aa Yokatta...and a bunch of other songs that are really kind of crap. :p But those two songs are highly recced!

Pearl Jam's Ten is an awesomely awesome album, and not just because it makes me so nostalgic for high school.

Okay, you guys. I don't normally ask for comments when I post stuff, but I just wrote commentary on a HUNDRED SONGS, so if you download something, let me know? And I would especially like to know what you thought of the stuff you downloaded.

Yes, it's time for another alphabetical favorites post. Only 9 letters (495 songs!!) left after this! (Feel free to suggest which I should do next. I've got H, I, K, L, O, P, R, S, and T left.)

But before that, I have to rave about this album that I've had on repeat all day (well, up until when I started listening to the Fs to write up the commentary on them). The album is called Pau-Latina and it's by a Mexican singer called Paulina Rubio. Bruce managed to find one other album by her, which I haven't listened to yet, but this is seriously awesome. Favorites are bolded, and because that ended up being like, half the album, I italicised and bolded the ones I am super-duper in love with.

Paulina Rubio - Pau-Latina
01 Algo Tienes
02 My Friend, Mi Amigo
03 Te Quise Tanto
04 Baila Que Baila
05 Ojalá
06 Perros
07 Quiero Cambiarme
08 Mía
09 Alma en Libertad
10 Adiosito Corazón
11 Amor Secreto
12 Volverás
13 Dame Otro Tequila

I've also got a few leftovers that I uploaded by request.

W - Second W
The best Hello! Project group, hands down. And of course they had to break up. Bah. Stupid Japanese idol rules that mean you're blacklisted forever if you dare to smoke or have a boyfriend. Anyway, unlike their first album, this is not all covers. I really love Robo Kiss.

Fujii Fumiya - Go the Distance
This is a Japanese version of the theme for the Disney movie Hercules.

And now, 45 songs beginning with F! )
torachan: a happy cartoon guy with the text "it's like a blast of happy up my ass" (blast of happy in my ass)
Hey, it's music time! I know I talked about maybe a best of Utada Hikaru post, but I think that will be later this week. After the stupidity with iTunes earlier I don't feel like doing more than this today. :p

These Mr. Children albums are all on MegaUpload. Someone asked me to upload them and I was having trouble ftping into my site, so I just used MU instead. These are all such awesome, awesome albums. I can't even pick one or two and say these are my favorites. I will say these four bolded ones are probably my favorites, but the others all have some really excellent songs on them, too!

Atomic Heart
Bolero

Discovery
Home
It's a Wonderful World
Q
Shifuku no Oto
Shinkai
Versus

Misc non-album songs

I also had a request for Amuro Namie's discography, so here it is. I've made a note of my favorite songs from each album if you just want to pick and choose. The bolded ones are my favorite albums.

Dance Tracks Vol. 1
(Go! Go!~Yume no Hayasa de~, Get My Shinin')
Original Tracks Vol. 1
(Koi no Cute Beat, Dancing Junk, Ai Shite Muscat, Heart ni Hi wo Tsukete)
Sweet 19 Blues

Concentration 20
(B w/z You, A Walk in the Park, Can You Celebrate?)
181920
(Body Feels Exit, Chase the Chance)
Genius 2000
(Respect the Power of Love, Something 'Bout the Kiss, Mi Corazon (Te' Amour), You Are the One featuring Imajin)
Break the Rules
(Please Smile Again, Never Shoulda, Girlfriend, Think of Me, No More Tears Remix)
Love Enhanced
(Say the Word, Lovin' It feat. Verbal)
Style
(Put 'em Up, So Crazy, Shine More)
Queen of Hip Pop
(WoWa, Alarm, No)
Play
(Hide & Seek, Hello, Top Secret, Baby Don't Cry)

Misc non-album songs
(Did U, The Speed Star, Handle Me)

And last, but definitely not least, The Spookshow again. I recced their Psychosexual Chapter 1 album recently and just the other day got a hold of Psychosexual Chapter 2.

OMG just as awesome as the first one. I highly, highly recommend both. Catchy, melodic punk with female vocals. ♥♥♥♥♥ I just wish the damn things were longer. That's the one thing I hate about punk, so many short songs! 30-minute albums are not satisfying! I want more! More, more, more! My favorites are I Can Kill You in a Heartbeat My Dear and I Can but I Won't, but it's all good.

The fun thing is that it's all this upbeat, catchy punk and the lyrics are like "I could give you a quick and painless death but I won't" and "kill me and violate my body". XD

Hey, hey, it's that time again. Have some music.

30 songs beginning with J )

In addition to those, I also want to pimp a band I just discovered the other day called ONE OK ROCK. The song I fell in love with is Keep It Real, but I also really like And I Know.

I also have some random stuff I've uploaded:

Rihanna - A Million Miles Away
Cake vs Fergie - Short Skirt, London Bridge
Charcoal Filter - C Best~Flying Hi-High~

In other news, yesterday marked ten years since Bruce moved out here. O_o Hard to believe it's been that long. To celebrate, we went out to lunch at a little restaurant in Little Tokyo called Issen Joki, which is the first place we ate at when he moved out here. February '98 was really, really rainy and we took the fucking bus down there in the pouring rain, but now we have a car, yay, and also it was not raining (though today it looks like it might).

I had katsu curry and gyoza. I had never had katsu curry before, but OMG SO GOOD. Definitely a case of two great tastes that taste fucking awesome together. Mmm... And of course gyoza are always awesome. I'm pretty sure there's a picture of gyoza in the dictionary next to the word awesome, in fact.

Afterwards we walked around the mall a bit. It's so sad down there now, lots of closed up shops. The Mitsuwa building is several blocks away from the rest of the main Little Tokyo area, so that's part of it, but also I think the whole area is not doing too well. But despite so many shops being out of business, the restaurants in there all seem to be doing great. Everywhere was packed, and this was a week day (actually they may do better on weekdays, with traffic from people who work in the area). There were also a lot of college-age kids around, which surprised me. Could they have been from USC? That's the only thing I can think of that's even close. Although I think maybe Cal State LA is down there somewhere, too, come to think of it. Anyway, there's an arcade on the second floor (used to be on the third, but moved down for some reason) and that was booming. It was good to see the place wasn't totally dead the way it was when we were there a few months ago. That was in the morning, though, and this was early afternoon, so I'm guessing they get a big lunch rush.

We debated going over to Kinokuniya, but the thing is, it would only be a temptation to spend money, which we really shouldn't do, especially since the only way to get validated is to buy something, so you're like, well, I could pay however much for parking, or I could buy a manga and actually get something for my money, and once you have one in your hand, it's so hard to stop! Better to just not go at all, so we didn't. Besides, I was stuffed after lunch and really felt like just going home.

Haven't had a music post in a while, so I figured I'd try to get at least one more of these up before Christmas. As usual, previous letters can be found in the tag. Feel free to request a letter for what to do next, otherwise I'll probably just do F.

Yes, it's yet another music post. I had a request for songs that start with Z, and since I didn't have that many, I've decided to put Q, V, X and Z all together to make an even twenty.

20 songs )

I've also got some random request stuff I've uploaded.

Here is everything I have of Fujii Takashi (one album and a few random tracks), aside from the two (Nan Da Kan Da and Oh My Juliet!) that are in my favorites lists.

And here are three Digimon Christmas albums, from 02, Tamers, and Frontier.

Unrelatedly, this is why I love Penny Arcade.
torachan: (Default)
Well, someone requested N as the next letter, so here it is. Feel free to suggest the next letter. :) Previous letters can be found in the tag. I've actually decided to make a separate tag for these as I think I might end up leaving them up permanently, or at least for quite some time, and that way they'll be easier to find than just sorting through the main music tag.

So I'm curious, should I go on to E next or skip around in the alphabet? If the latter, anyone have any suggestions for which letter I should do? (Previous letters can be found in the music tag.)

Now that I don't have the deadline of doom hanging over my head, I've finally had a chance to write up another of these posts. Previous letters can be found in the music tag.

Hey, lookit that. I finally got another of these posts written up. I have all the music uploaded, nearly 5GB for the entire alphabet, but writing the commentary for hundreds of songs will take a while... XD I've left up the previous letters and will do so until I've gone through the whole alphabet. I've done #, B, M, and W and they can be found through the "music" tag on this post.

Okay, I've got the first of these sets written up. There weren't a whole lot of songs starting with numbers, so I managed to get it down to only twenty songs this time. :D
