It seems there's a meme going around where you talk about your past Yuletide stories and how could I resist that? It really makes me sad that I was unable to write even a treat last year, because it's the first time since 2004 that I didn't participate in some way, but hopefully I will manage something this year.

15 stories in 7 years )

And then last year I didn't participate in the exchange and while I thought about writing treats, it just never happened.

Stats-wise, I've written 7 m/m stories, 3 f/f, 2 m/f, 1 m/m/f, and 1 gen, which is a pretty similar distribution compared to my non-Yuletide output (though non-Yuletide probably has a higher percentage of m/m). And I've never written in the same fandom twice. Not only that, but it was always my first time writing in a fandom, too, even if I've since gone on to write more in that fandom (which I think is only Leverage and Yotsuba&! Oh, and Nana).

ETA: I didn't even notice this until I posted, but apparently during the time I was doing this meme (I started yesterday and finished today), AO3 changed the way they code the "share" function, so the first ones have the little AO3 icon and the rest don't. I wonder why they took that out.

Man, do you remember like a couple months ago there was this meme going around where you list all the fics you've written with titles taken from lyrics? I was really excited about it, because I'd actually been keeping a list like that for years! But I didn't just want to post a list; I wanted to link each fic and also the songs, so yeah. That's a lot of work when it's seventy-some fics. >_<

Almost all of the song links go to mp3s on my site, which I will probably eventually delete at some point in the future, but I'll leave them up for a while. A few songs just go to youtube links because they are not ones I actually have (based on prompts or whatever), but usually I choose lyrics to use from songs I like, so of course I have the songs on my hard drive.

As for the fic links, most go to AO3, except for a couple that are on the list but were never finished or are old and need extensive editing before seeing the light of day on AO3, so those go to wherever they are currently hosted.

I would love to talk about each song choice individually, and that is why I had originally started the list, but I can't. I had this list for years and never posted it because even when it wasn't this huge, it was still overwhelming. If you want to ask me why I chose a particular title or anything like that, I'm happy to talk more in comments, though!

In general when I choose lyrics for titles, I don't choose them based on the feeling of the song or anything like that. I want them to be understandable just as they are (though in many cases the connection is only clear once you read the fic). Often the lyrics are taken completely out of context and the rest of the song has nothing to do with anything (the majority are like this). A couple (like the most recent fic I posted) are just chosen because they're pretty-sounding, but those are the exceptions.

Speaking of exceptions, damn, I used to write a lot more fics that didn't use lyrics for titles! Well, I used to write a lot more fics in general. XD But my non-lyrics titles were mostly sucky (or blah one-word titles that everyone has used a million times), so in general I'm happier with the lyrics ones.

Also I tend to stick to certain bands, not so much because I prefer their lyrics over other people's, but because I know they have lyrics I often like, whereas unless I write down a turn of phrase that catches my ear, my mind will go totally blank when trying to remember what other artists have good lyrics when it comes time to pick a title. (So I'm trying to remember to write things down more so that I have a good list to choose from.) Oh, and some songs are reused multiple times because they have lots of bits I like. ^_^;;

Anyway, on to the list!

This is a lot of links omg )

I don't know if I'll be doing every day of this, because I don't know if I'll have time and there's no list of what the challenges will be, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to rec my own fics. :D

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Drop a link to your post in the comments.

This is really tough, because I love almost everything I've written, and while I'm not as prolific as many people on my flist, I have written a lot over the years. So this is a random selection of favorites, in a random order.

Everything Falls Apart (873 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Vampire Chronicles - Rice
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Louis de Pointe du Lac, Lestat de Lioncourt, Claudia (Vampire Chronicles)
Summary: Claudia realizes she's never going to grow up.

My first fic fandom! Although I wrote a ton of Louis/Lestat fics, some of my very favorites are the Claudia ones. I think I've become a much better writer since my VC days, and some of my early fics make me cringe a bit, but I love this one to pieces.

No Understanding No Sound from Above (1506 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Harry Potter - Rowling
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Sirius Black/Remus Lupin
Summary: Remus has a secret that has nothing to do with the full moon.

I have such a fondness for this, not my first trans fic, but for some reason it feels like it (maybe because the actual first was quite short and in a tiny fandom, whereas this was fucking Harry Potter, you know?). I love it so, especially the bit at the end with Tonks.

All but the Bitter Residue (1050 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Harry Potter - Fandom
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black
Summary: The year is 1981. In the days following Voldemort's defeat, Remus struggles to come to terms with betrayal and loss.

This is another angsty Remus one because I love angsty Remus. I just read it again (I'm reading these all again, to be sure which ones I want to choose), and damn, the ending is just perfect.

Sleeping Underneath Your Skin (1908 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Harry Potter - Fandom
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Harry Potter/Ginny Weasley
Summary: There are a lot of things Ginny tries not to think about. If she told someone that, they'd probably think she meant the war, maybe especially sixth year. Or Fred's death. Or the whole thing with Tom Riddle's diary. Well, there are things she doesn't like to think about with the diary, but it's not what people expect.

I think if I had to pick one all-time favorite HP fic, though, this would be it. I love the Marauder angst, but Ginny! I also love Ginny, and especially this Ginny. And I just love this fic in general, all the little details of it.

The Best Day Ever (800 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Big Bang Theory
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Sheldon Cooper, Meemaw
Summary: Staying the night at Meemaw's house always means cereal for breakfast, even if it's not cereal day. Today is extra special because it's just Shelly and Meemaw. Erin Juarez is having a slumber party and all the girls in their class were invited, but Missy is just as happy that Shelly didn't want to go as Shelly is not to be going.

I just...*flails* I love this so much. I don't usually cry when reading fiction, certainly not something I wrote, but I tear up at this every time. (I have also been really surprised by the response to this. It's definitely one of my most popular fics I've written.)

Almost Drowning in Her Sea (1348 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: lotrips
Rating: Mature
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Elijah Wood/Hannah Wood
Summary: Elijah's going away to college in the morning. There's a lot of last-minute packing. There's a lot of 'last's.

I have written several fics for these two, but this is hands-down my favorite, because while I like happy-fun incest, what I love is super fucked-up incest. *_* So much more of this story is in my head than what came out on paper, though; I really realised that reading it over now.

Easier to Lie and Be Safe (933 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Natural Nylon RPF
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Jude Law/Ewan McGregor
Summary: In hindsight, Ewan probably shouldn't have left the door open, but even then, he's not sure it wouldn't have happened some other way.

I wrote so many Jude/Ewan fics, and I could easily pick out a dozen more favorites from those, but I think this is the best. (LOL I ship them so hard and yet as my favorite I pick one where they don't get together? idek)

The World That We Live In (No, We Can't Go Back) (1374 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: John Sheppard, Rodney McKay
Summary: When his dad first said they were going to move, John yelled and called him a liar. He didn't tell Rodney for a long time, not until they were starting to pack and he couldn't not tell him anymore.

I think this is the most recent fic on the list. I saw a lot of other awesome ones more recent than this, but I was like "I shouldn't pick only recent stuff!" and then ended up picking mostly older stuff instead. :p But this! I love this so much. Possibly my favorite SGA fic I've written, but it's a close tie with the next one.

The Fourteenth of Green (3178 words) by faviconkyuuketsukirui
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Rodney McKay/John Sheppard
Summary: It has been three weeks. Rodney marks another line on the wall. These ones are in red, a clean break to mark the days without John.

Thiiiiiis. I am so proud of myself for this, because it was such a hard fic to write, in that getting it from my head, where it all made so much sense, to a form where it makes sense for the reader, was really not an easy thing to do. [personal profile] helens78 deserves so much props for helping me get this into shape!

Fic memes

Meh, I have not written any more since that first drabble the other day, but maybe some fic memes will get me in a writing mood? I have seen this one going around my flist quite a bit in the past few days:

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you between one and three sentences from that story.

And then [personal profile] telesilla mentioned this one, which I had so much fun with several years ago and would love to do again:

You give me the title and pairing for a fic I haven't written and I'll give you a summary/description of the fic.

Choose one or both! Any fandom is fine, if you know it's something I've read or watched. :D
torachan: (Default)
If you make up titles for stories I didn't write, I will respond with details of those non-written stories. Just think of the possibilities! (If you'd like to include details you'd like, pairings or fandom or something, do that too.)

I've seen this around a few places, so what the hell.

1. Go to my website (a lot of my old VC fic is still here, too) and pick out a line or two from one of my stories. They can't be generic sort of 'Hi!' lines, nor something very vague like "oh god. yeah. there. Fuck!"

2. I will respond with which story I think it's from.

3. Points and a snippet or drabble to the first five who stump me. (I know I still owe people drabbles and drawings, but I haven't forgotten; you'll get them someday...)

And now for something completely different. Finally got the tape today from work, so I guess I'll start on that tonight. They still owe me a check, too, which was supposedly mailed yesterday. It had better get here tomorrow. It was due the 5th, and this is 90 days after the invoice date. Don't keep me waiting any longer!

Now that I'm drawing all the time again, I ought to set up an art section on my site. I've got all my old Digimon and VC fanart, plus I have a huge stack of old stuff I was going to scan, and I have photos of art projects, and all my graphics... *needs more time*

I had the worst time at Savon last night. Went to buy a fan because we're having a horrid heat spell again and our ancient one broke (and my ancient I really mean ancient; it's one we've had all my life, and I'm sure it's even older than that. I've never seen another one like it. It's round and looks sort of like an ottoman. You can sit on the top. I don't want to get rid of it, so I'll see if Tom or my grandpa can fix it). We have two box fans as well, but this new one is one of those ones on a stand.

Anyway, to make a (very) long story short, there were only two people in front of me at Savon, and yet it took me 15-20 minutes from the time I got in line to the time I got out the door. The checker was slow, plus she didn't know anything and so had to call a manager over time and time again. She called over three different managers a total of four times. Yeah. Plus I had to swipe my credit card three times, so I really hope I didn't get charged for all three. The fan was also a bit of a pain to put together, but so far it's really nice. Has a timer, too, so Bruce can put it on in the bedroom when he goes to bed and have it turn off in a couple hours automatically.

And just randomly, because I was talking about our bed the other day, I figured I'd take a picture. You can't really tell how big it is since there's nothing else to compare it to, but the futon is king size and takes up probably 3/4 the bedroom floor. It's nice, though, because since it's on the floor, it doesn't seem like it takes up the whole room. You could never have a king size bed in there if it were an actual bed on a frame. Well, I mean, you could, but it would feel like it took up the entire room whereas this still feels very open.

Messy bed... )

I don't believe in making the bed, so yeah, it's messy. :p For one thing, Bruce and I have completely different sleeping preferences. He wants a max of two blankets, and I want that huge pile over by the wall. So we just have separate blankets. Plus I like to wrap my blankets around me and don't want to have them stretched across the bed. Ugh. So yeah, not going to make the bed. (Oh yeah, and most of our blankets aren't king size.)
