But first, I have to share this. Bruce got a spam today, one of those that's just random snippets of stuff, that included the phrase, "Are you suggesting President psychosomatic Bush sees guarantee everything in black and white". If I weren't so enamored of BumAccess4All.net, I'd change my journal title to President Psychosomatic Bush. Since I'm not, I'm throwing it out there in hopes one of you will take it. It really is a journal title waiting to happen.

And now, on to the reviews. Yeah, it's a random bunch of fandoms again, because I've just been reading here and there what I've seen on my flist or on delicious, rather than choosing a fandom and sticking with it. I don't normally like to do more than one fandom per post because the tags get a bit out of hand, but oh well.

Of a Sort and A Rough Start by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes 5/5 Recommended
2300 words and 5400 words. SPN/HP. Dean Winchester goes to Hogwarts.

I'm not terribly fond of crossovers, but I'm loving this. So far it's two stories, and I imagine there will be more. I hope there will, because it definitely feels like a series rather than stand-alone stories.

When I first read Of a Sort, I wasn't that thrilled. I loved her Dean, but there wasn't a lot of explanation as to how this crossover worked. A lot of that was fixed in A Rough Start (though I still don't know why no one ever comments on the fact that surely Dean must have an American accent, even if he has been living in England for a year) and I'm really liking the way it's going. It seems more like the Winchesters and their story have been transplanted into the world of HP, rather than trying to make the two universes co-exist (which would be impossible).

Anyway, I really love the writing and Dean! So far there's not much Sammy, just a lot of Dean referring to Sammy (including writing him letters), but I'm more a Dean fan anyway, so. But Dean deciding to stay at Hogwarts so he can be an Auror and kill demons and avenge his parents and protect Sammy is so perfect. As is having him in Hufflepuff. During the sorting, I was really rooting for that. Sure Dean is brave and could easily be Gryffindor, but I think his protective streak makes him much more cut out for Hufflepuff.

This definitely makes me want to go read more wee!Dean fic.

Once Upon a Time by [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon 3/5
20,400 words. SGA. In which Elizabeth is captured by the Genii, Daniel Jackson comes to Atlantis, and John falls apart.

I wavered between a three and a four on this, but while I was really liking it a lot at first, by the end I was sort of "whatever". I really enjoyed the Rodney sections a lot, and I kind of wish she'd kept the last chapter in his POV as well, rather than switching to John, or even just ended it with chapter three, as it did come to a good ending point there.

This has got some great lines, though, like

He complains because complainito ergo Rodney.

and

"There was once a large latantan-this is like what your people call a badger?-that lived deep in the ground. Once a year, it would roll on its side and great cataclysms would rock the ground, felling trees and overturning dwellings in the villages," Teyla Emmagan explains in her calm tones.

"Is this a metaphor, or do your people believe this to be a literal occurrence?" Dr. Daniel Jackson interjects, excitement clear in his voice.

"Do your people truly believe your planet is carried on the back of a great turtle or a giant fish?"

Fifteen Things You Never Knew About Hogwarts by [livejournal.com profile] siriaeve 3/5
1100 words. HP. Exactly what the title says.

I'm not really fond of this sort of list fic, especially when it's just really short stuff, like one or two lines. It always ends up bugging me that it's not a proper story. Anyway, despite that, this was interesting enough and I liked some of the observations about Hogwarts, especially the first one. It made me want to read about wee Filch.

iSex by [livejournal.com profile] telesilla 3/5
700 words. Joe Flanigan/David Hewlett. Joe calls David on his new iPhone.

This is apparently based on a Twitter from David Hewlett about Joe getting an iPhone. There's banter and phonesex, and banter interspersed with the phonesex, and it's quite fun and hot. I'm not usually a huge fan of dialogue-only fics, but this works quite well (and since it's a phone conversation, feels very natural without any narrative).

Thanks for the "iSex" link--it was fun, if not perfect. Certainly a great idea! The problem I always have with RPS is the voices--I don't really know the actors' voices, so it doesn't give me the frisson of pleasure I get from reading really good character voices in fanfic.

Reading RPS where I'm unfamiliar with the actors is basically like reading original fic for me, so I don't really mind it.
