Daily Happiness
Jun. 28th, 2012 02:00 amHad a great day hanging out with Alexander. He had asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday a while back and I said karaoke, but then when I had all this trouble with the jeans I ordered online, I asked him if he could take me to Walmart (closest ones are not accessible by bus or bike unless I want to spend literally the whole day getting there and back). He said sure, and then he also suggested getting massages. I've never had a massage before and am not big on people touching me, so it's not something I would have ever tried on my own, but he was paying, so I figured that's as good a time as any to try it out.
So we did an hour of karaoke, which is less than I usually like to do, but I knew that with as busy a day as this was going to be, I didn't want more, so it worked out okay.
I sang a couple GLAY songs (Koko dewa Nai Dokoka e and Fairy Story), which I did really well on (GLAY used to be kind of iffy for me rangewise, but now they're pretty much perfect); The Fray's How to Save a Life, which ugh...I just cannot do that voice, but it was still fun to sing; Katy Perry's Waking Up in Vegas (definitely a fun one and surprisingly easy on my vocal cords for something by a female singer); Pour Some Sugar on Me (Alexander's choice, but I sang with him, because who doesn't like Def Leppard?); Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars (eh, this is one I think I prefer listening to over singing); Britney Spears' Hold It Against Me, which I had to cancel in the middle, because too much strain on my already raw throat (I love Britney but I just cannot sing her songs, boo); and Pistol by Kuroyume, which I NAILED. That is definitely going on my "favorite songs to sing" list. There might have been one more that I'm forgetting...
Afterwards, we headed out to San Gabriel Valley to one of the millions of Chinese massage places out there. Because there are so many, the pricing is really competitive. The one we went to was $15 an hour + tip, though we ended up driving by one afterwards that was only $9.99. These places are ostensibly foot massages, but they do your back, neck, head, etc. for about half the time. It was pretty enjoyable, actually. I definitely wouldn't mind going again.
It took us ages to get there, though, because traffic was horrible getting out to the valley, and then Google had a brainfart and did that thing where it tells you to go some totally other place than where the actual location is. So as soon as we realised the directions were messed up, we were like, okay, it's on Valley Blvd. so let's just get back on Valley and keep going. But where we got on Valley was in the 9000 block and we wanted 301. D: So I was like, fuck, how long is that going to take??? But then as soon as we crossed from Alhambra into San Gabriel, the numbers dropped down from 8000 to 1000, so we were like whew, but then we came to the 300s and...no 301. So at that point he was like okay, let's just find any foot massage place and go there, then, but just as we were driving a few more blocks, I noticed that there was a 300 block again. The first 300s had been East Valley Blvd. and now this was West Valley Blvd. (which is indeed what we had wanted, but when we first got on Valley there was no E or W on the sign at all). So we turned around and the shopping centre we had just passed was the one we wanted!
After the massage, we went to Popeye's for dinner. I felt sort of silly for that choice since here we were surrounded by Chinese restaurants, but when we passed Popeye's on the way to the massage place it made me just really, really want chicken! And there's no Popeye's near me, so it's not like it's somewhere I can usually go.
Then it was time for Walmart, which I had already looked up and found that there was one just a couple miles from the massage place when he suggested us getting massages. I was able to easily return both pairs of pants, and after a lot of poking around, finally found some that didn't have hugely baggy legs. For future reference, the style is regular fit. They are still straight-leg, but I guess the legs must overall be narrower, because there was definitely a difference between those and the original fit and relaxed fit that I had ordered online.
By the time we headed home, it was around eight, so hardly any traffic coming back, which was nice. It was an exhausting day, but I had a lot of fun. :D
