torachan: anime-style me ver. 2.0 (Default)
Minus my remix, obviously...

Post the first lines from your last 20 stories. Do you see a pattern?

From newest to oldest. )

First off, wow, twenty fics took me back to June. D: And most of them are drabbles or under 500 words. *sigh* At least I've been writing a lot more this year so far. :)

Anyway! I guess the main pattern I see is that I tend to start off in the middle of things and I start with a statement more often than dialogue (only a handful start with dialogue). Short sentences are much more common than long. Also nineteen out of twenty are third-person.

Also I like them all quite a bit. :D I think I'm pretty good at first and last lines. Some are weaker than others, but overall I tend to be very pleased with them. Which is good, because first and last lines are important!

Also I am just pleased with all these fics in general. I may not have been writing as much as I wanted to over the past year, but I have written a lot of stuff I think is pretty awesome.

Pretty good variety, too. Nine are SGA and eight of those are John/Rodney, but that's because a bunch of drabbles were for last year's McShep Match, and while I prefer more variety in fandoms and pairings, I was in such a slump last year, so I am still both amazed and thrilled that I ws so inspired by that drabble tree to actually write a bunch of stuff. Yay inspiration!

Iron Man

Successful Secrets of the Sexual Kind by [personal profile] atrata Rec+
2800 words. Five times they don't have sex, and think about it anyway.

This is cute and hot and pretty much the best thing ever. This is totally my canon now. They totally fantasise about each other like this.

Almost No One Makes It Out by [personal profile] atrata Rec+
28,000 words. What would have happened if Tony hadn't been born filthy rich? A military AU.

Okay, everyone and their mother has already recced this fic, and for good reason. It is just that awesome. It's an AU of the first movie, and Tony is not the wealthy playboy of canon, but just an ordinary guy. He's still Tony, though; there's just a lot fewer people willing to take his shit. I really loved how well thought out this was, how everything is different, but the same. And most of all, I loved the scene with Tony's trial, which had me literally laughing out loud.

Foundation by [personal profile] musesfool
600 words. "I like your freckles."

Adorable Tony/Pepper UST.

Supernatural

If On a Winter's Night a Fangirl by [livejournal.com profile] trinityofone Rec+
12,300 words. "Chuck," Becky said, slowly and carefully and very, very seriously. "I think someone is trying to communicate with us through the fanfic."

Wow. I...wow. *flails* This is seriously like one of the best things I've ever read. It's hilarious and meta (not just meta in the whole Becky and Chuck way but about fandom and the internet in general) and so, so good. XD I love Becky here. Even if you cringed at her on the show, she is awesome here. The first half of the story was funny, but it's not til the big reveal that things really get going. I want to quote so many things, so many spoilery things! This is best read unspoiled, though. Seriously! (Or should I say srsly? LOL)

Spoilers!! )

Original Fic

Define Me with a Knife by [personal profile] eisen Rec+
7100 words. Teenage girls are petty creatures. And I'm definitely including myself in that statement.

This is very awesome. It reads just like a shounen manga, to the degree that I was actually envisioning page layouts as I was reading it. It's a harsh post-apocalyptic world filled with odd creatures and a dwindling band of teenagers, including the narrator, who died and was brought back by a creature called Gev in exchange for her eye. It's really well-written and sucks you right in.

1. Sold some CDs. Yay, money! (Still have many more for sale here.)

2. I was fairly productive yesterday, despite the combination of RSI flare-up + whatever the hell I did to my knee.

3. I'm excited about the upcoming round of [community profile] kink_bingo! Yesterday there was a post about new categories and stuff. Maybe this year I will actually get a bingo or even write a fic at some point before the amnesty period.

4. Also excited about [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match! Signups are Friday (3pm for me) and I will be refreshing the comm to make sure I get a spot.

5. I am still amused by the ultimate badfic.

Daily Happysong:

Paulina Rubio - Alma En Libertad
I love this song so much! This is from her Pau-Latina album, which is just really great all around.

The Best Day Ever
800 words :: The Big Bang Theory :: Sheldon, Meemaw :: 4/28/10 :: warning policy
Staying the night at Meemaw's house always means cereal for breakfast, even if it's not cereal day. Today is extra special because it's just Shelly and Meemaw. Erin Juarez is having a slumber party and all the girls in their class were invited, but Missy is just as happy that Shelly didn't want to go as Shelly is not to be going.

Notes: For my own prompt of "Big Bang Theory, Sheldon & Meemaw" in the Transfic Mini Fest and for the Other Ways Of Saying I Love You commentfanworks meme.

Erin and Missy and the other girls are going to Waterworld, but Shelly would rather go swimming in Meemaw's pool. Shelly does not like Waterworld's rules. They aren't fair. )

For those of you who have posted or are planning to post fest fics to AO3, I have created a Transfic Mini Fest tag you can use.
