1. No Counting Crows/Maroon 5 concert for me. First off, Live Nation's site is horrible and confusing and I never want to order tickets directly from them again. Urg. But. When I finally was able to see where the $10 tickets would be, it turned out to be on the lawn up top. (Irvine Meadows Verizon Amphitheater is an outdoor venue.) I couldn't find any info on how seats on the lawn worked, so I was already iffy, but then it turned out that the ticket was $10, plus $6 parking fee, plus $6 and change other fee, plus $5 and change other other fee, bringing it to $27 and change, and I thought...do I really want to drive to Irvine on a Friday night, to sit up on the lawn behind the stadium with no idea of how well I'll even be able to see? Nooooooot really. Even for the awesomeness that would be those two bands together. So. Disappointing. :( But at least I have GLAY to look forward to next month!

2. We're going to an early morning show of Batman in...just a few hours, actually. The first show is at 9.30am. I'm hoping they still have that deal where tickets are $6 for shows before noon. I wasn't that thrilled with Batman Begins, though it was fun enough, but this seems like it's going to be awesomely dark and fucked up, so I'm looking forward to it. Yay, Joker!

3. Does anyone have an mp3 of Violent Femmes' Kiss Off? My copy is really quiet and it doesn't appear to be on either of the albums we have.

4. The awkward situation of awkwardness with my [livejournal.com profile] livelongnmarry auction still has not been resolved. I wrote to the bidder earlier today and explained, but so far not sure what to do with it. [livejournal.com profile] busaikko or [livejournal.com profile] rawiyaparand, as the 2nd and 3rd place bidders, if it came down to it, would either of you be interested in paying the winning bidder to have the winning bid transferred to you? Though I guess that would only work if you could use paypal.

5. I watched the final episode of Dr. Horrible and am just flaily with love for it. It definitely had its problems, but... )

Day 1: Thief in the Night

Perchance to Dream by [livejournal.com profile] blueraccoon 1/5
4800 words. John and Rodney find themselves mysteriously trapped on a different planet each time they fall asleep.
Disappointing start for the Match. )

Mission: Improbable by [livejournal.com profile] sageness 2/5
7600 words. Mission Impossible AU.
Surprisingly boring. )

Day 2: Pound of Flesh

Shadows Cast by Outward Things by [livejournal.com profile] wesleysgirl 2/5
9500 words. A mysterious disappearance on a planet they're visiting reminds Rodney of something from his own childhood.
Interesting plot, but would have been better as gen. )

Little by Little to the Truth; or a Narrative of the Atlantis Expedition by [livejournal.com profile] telesilla 3/5
5700 words. It's 1904 and Lady Elizabeth Weir, Dowager Countess Menlow and Head of the Atlantis Expedition, is the widow of an English noble; Colonel John Patrick Sheppard, US Army Reserve, is a Spanish-American War veteran who's also piloted airships and tested aeroplanes and motorcars, and Doctor Meredith R. McKay, smartest man in two galaxies, is the inventor of the first Patented Completely Portable Personal Computing Machine. And yet, things are strangely familiar.
Very neat setting. )

Day 3: Dead Ringer

Attention Paid by [livejournal.com profile] roaringmice 1/5 - Did not finish
8900 words. John comes back from a mission and he's not quite himself. Rodney thinks he knows what's going on, but he doesn't know the half of it.
Epithets and telling and clunkiness, oh my. )

By Whirlwind Scattered by [livejournal.com profile] busaikko 5/5 Recommended
5700 words. On the seventeenth day after the jumper crashed, Rodney realized that the man he was stranded with was not John Sheppard.
So awesome. )

Day 4: Eleventh Hour

Less to Say by [livejournal.com profile] flatlanddan 1/5
4900 words. This place is kinda weird. Not life sucking aliens weird, but still kinda weird.
This is one huge plothole. )

Near Things by [livejournal.com profile] kassrachel 2/5
4500 words. After each of them narrowly avoids marrying someone, John and Rodney realise life is too short.
Random bits of AU or unfamiliarity with canon? You be the judge. )

Day 5: One for the Road

Future Imperfect by [livejournal.com profile] ldyanne 2/5
2800 words. Sometimes saying goodbye is the hardest thing to do.
More 'not my thing' than 'really badly written', but still not great. )

Tonight and the Rest of My Life by [livejournal.com profile] velocitygrass 2/5
14,900 words. Rodney is suddenly allergic to Atlantis and must return to Earth.
The sex scene goes on forever! )

Urg. Shouldn't have gone this weekend. Even the morning show was packed out and we had to sit in the second row. We sat to the side, so I didn't get too dizzy (we were originally sitting in the middle and that was very, very bad), but my neck hurt from having to look up at the screen, and when you're that close, it's hard to focus on things. It made it a very long two and a half hours.

Spoilers )

We saw previews for The Watchmen, Terminator something or other, a movie about cops who kill people, and...something else. Nothing looked super exciting, but they're not exactly advertising my type of film during these summer blockbusters. I am somewhat curious about Terminator. I never saw the third one, and I haven't been watching the show, but now I feel like maybe I should.
