I watched two movies yesterday! *gasp*

Pirates of the Caribbean )

Music and Lyrics )

After Pirates, we went to Honey's Kettle, as it's right down the street, but...they were out of almost everything. Out of chicken strips, out of fish sticks, our of lemonade, and on top of that, their credit card machine was broken. We both ended up getting the new "hot cakes and chicken", which was three pancakes and a breast. Their pancakes are really good, but breakfast foods + chicken really made me want to go to Roscoe's. I wish there were one a bit closer than La Brea. Anyway, I did get a dozen Honey's biscuits to bring home, and those are delicious as usual, but I'm jonesing for their fish, so Bruce and I might go over next weekend (much earlier in the day, so they're not sold out, wtf).

I think I'm going to have another couple biscuits now. :D

Ow. Pain.

My back has been hurting for the past week or so. I don't really have anything particular to point at as the culprit, so I must have just slept on it funny. It's the same spot that always goes out and it's one of those things where you don't notice how much you actually use your lower back until you're in pain with every movement.

Anyway, it was getting better and then I must have slept on it wrong again night before last, because it was pretty bad yesterday. But nothing compares to this morning. It was getting better again last night/this morning. Still hurting, but not like, making me want to walk hunched over. But then at some point when I was sleeping, I made the bad, bad, bad decision to roll onto my back, and so I woke up a bit before noon, after less than three hours' sleep, completely in pain and almost unable to move.

I was like a turtle turned on my shell, seriously. It took maybe fifteen minutes to even be able to get onto my stomach and then longer to get up. I hobbled into the bathroom and leaned over the sink and then couldn't straighten up.

Now I've had a bunch of advil and the heating pad (fun in this heat...) and it's less with the screaming pain and more bearable, but I'm really tired and would like to go to sleep, but I'm afraid. Lying on my side seems to be the least painful, but I find it hard to sleep that way. :-/

I got my Sit and Step thing in the mail today! It's pretty neat, though makes a bit of noise as you step. I did about ten minutes when I first got it, but unfortunately with my back like this, right now the most comfortable position is to sit in my chair cross-legged, so I can't use it as much as I'd like. Maybe later on if I'm feeling better.

I was going through my list of unread stuff on delicious and trying to pick out some fandoms where I just had one or two fics each. Turns out most of the random fandom stuff is from Yuletide, though, which I want to keep together.

I napped for about four hours this afternoon after Bruce got home. I tried sleeping on my side, since that is apparently the recommended position that's best for your back, but I just couldn't fall asleep that way. I'm used to sleeping on my stomach, and occasionally on my back, but it's my stomach I really prefer and find the easiest to fall asleep on. It's also the worst for your back. ;_; But I did read that if you must sleep that way, putting a pillow under your hips helps, so I did that, and while my back still hurts a lot I didn't wake up in as bad condition as I did this morning, and I wasn't worse off than when I went to bed.

I did some back stretches before going to sleep, too, which felt good.

I woke up around nine, to the sound of the neighbors going at it with the bongo drums. I...really don't know what's up with that. We had bongos for about an hour, and I think they had a fire going, too. It doesn't really smell like BBQ, just like fire. My mouth feels ashy from sitting by the open window.

Bruce is out getting me Taco Bell now, which is nice. ♥

I haven't really done anything today. :( When I was up earlier, I mainly just sat here being tired. It's only 10.30, though, so hopefully I can be more productive later.

I really wish I knew what to do about my [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match. I want to write, but I still can't decide whether to go with my original idea or continue with the fic I started last week. I really need to make a decision, because um. I think Thursday is a month til the deadline? Usually I wouldn't be worried until, you know, maybe a week beforehand, at that, but these are both long, involved ideas and I am a wee bit panicky.

Until such time as I make a decision, I suppose I shall try to be productive and get some lyrics translated. I don't know what the hell I did last week, but it certainly wasn't lyrics, as I only managed to get nine songs done. ;_;

Oh, FFN

So, back in December I decided I really wanted to read Invader Zim fic (all [livejournal.com profile] chaya's fault). Unfortunately the fandom pretty much exists only on fanfiction.net. There are a couple of LJ comms, but rather than posting fic there, people just link to FFN, so I figured why bother with those, just go straight to the source.

I once read Zim fic there before, back when there were probably less than a hundred fics. Now, even after filtering out all incomplete stories, I'm still left with fifty-one pages to sort through.

I got up to page 18 and just couldn't go on. So many fics were super angsty and all about dying and suicide and emo wangst and it's just crazy. I don't know why everyone seems dead set on writing completely out-of-place fic for this fandom... Anyway, I decided to just filter for stuff marked humor, which gave me 17 pages total, 6 of which I'd already gone through the first time. I managed to get through two more pages and then decided to narrow the search even further, to just stuff featuring GIR.

I already have two that I read back in December, which have been sitting in my reviews file ever since, waiting for me to get up the courage to go back again... This time I'm not reading as I go, just bookmarking, and will probably do a Zim set after whatever fandom I read next (which looks to be HP so far by the votes).

I bookmarked ten fics total out of probably about four or five hundred that I looked through? Pretty sad. I'm not really that hopeful that I'll find many threes, much less fours and fives. But I would really love good fic in this fandom and I guess this is my only chance of finding any. :(

Meanwhile, here's a sampling of some of the worst summaries I came across on my travels.

Song fic to Def Leppard!? )
