What are you currently reading?
Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei 11. I had hoped that taking some time away from the series and reading other stuff would make it feel less samey the next time I picked up a volume, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Or maybe this volume is just not that great. Which is not to say it hasn't had its moments, but they've been few and far between, with some chapters just being boring from beginning to end (not what you want in a gag manga).

When I first started reading this manga, I loved it. The first several volumes were hilarious. But the longer it goes on, the more it just feels like it's repeating itself. I usually like to read things all in one go (especially if it's completed series), but this one I'm having to space out because it just doesn't do well in large chunks. Or even small chunks, if this volume is anything to go by.

The completist in me wants to finish the whole series, but I kind of dread the thought of twenty more volumes of this, so we'll see. If nothing else, I think I'll take a longer break from it after this.

What did you recently finish reading?
I read up through volume five of Crimson Hero and would totally have kept on with that if I had more on my ipod. I'm really enjoying it a lot and it's a fast read. I do want to vary my reading more, though, so will continue to only put a few volumes at a time on my ipod. :p

I also read up through the end of Katekyo Hitman Reborn! I actually didn't know it had ended, since I fell behind on my Jump reading again a while back. But when I went to look at Wikipedia to see when the next volume was coming out, I saw that the next volume is the final one. And then I noticed that when I stopped reading it week by week, I actually had only six chapters or so left that I hadn't read, so rather than wait for the volume to come out (especially since no one seems to be scanning these last few volumes), I'd just go ahead and read those chapters. I didn't feel like spending a lot of time finding and downloading the individual chapters from the place I usually get raws, so I just sucked it up and read the scanlations, which were terrible as usual, but I got the gist.

I'll be writing up a real review once the final volume has been published, but my feelings on the ending are as meh as my feelings on the series as a whole have been. I loved the first eight or so volumes when it was a ridiculous gag manga and thought it went downhill from there. (I know I'm in the minority and most fans seem to hate those early volumes, but I love gag manga and thought the series was hilarious. I wish it had stayed a gag manga and not turned into what it did.)

In addition to that, I read volume 63 of Naruto. Or half of it, rather, since the first half was chapters I'd already read. Now that Reborn! is finished and I'm only following One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach, maybe I will try to get back to reading on a weekly basis, idk. (But in order to do so, I'd either have to spend a lot of time downloading all those individual chapters or else read scanlations. >_<

What do you think you'll read next?
I have volumes two and three of the 20th Anniversary Kindaichi series (I had actually bought vol. 2 when I went to Asahiya a few weeks ago, since no one had scanned it yet, but then someone uploaded it recently (which saves me the time of scanning it and also means I can just read it on my ipod now, which I prefer anyway) and somone uploaded vol. 3 soon after that), so I will probably read those and then some more Crimson Hero.

Would this be a good place to ask you where you get your raws? Because yeah, sometimes the One Piece scanlations are completely terrible, and I'd like to check the raw, but Iono where to get them. ^^;;

I usually get my raws from a locked Japanese messageboard. I would offer to give you an invite, but they took the extra step of making the manga forum invisible to anyone below a certain level, so in order to even access it, you have to upload stuff in the other forums and hope people give you enough points for your uploads that you are eventually able to view the manga forum. D:

It does have a lot of jpop and other good stuff, though (which is visible to anyone with an account, even newbies), so if you want an account, I'd be happy to send you an invite.

Another site which I recently was introduced to is jcafe. Their Winny Club forum is where the raws are, and while you do have to jump through hoops a little bit to access them, it's pretty easy. After you create an account, just make one post somewhere and then you will be able to view the download links (otherwise they're hidden and you'll just see what looks like empty posts). They have a lot of stuff there, but don't seem to have WSJ scans anymore. ;_;

I also get some stuff from Raw Scans, but they only have full volumes and lots of links are broken.

Ahh, okay. Yeah, I would definitely fail at that! Messageboards are mysterious and scary places, for me, haha.

Nah, it's cool! I'm not big into jpop, so.

Oh, huh! I'll give it a poke if I'm looking for non-Jump manga again! :D

Bluh, broken links are made of annoying. :(

Thank you, though! :D

Yeah, this messageboard is particularly mysterious and scary because there's a ton of rules and politeness-policing and stuff, too. :-/ I've been using it for years and still don't feel entirely comfortable there, but it is the best place to get raws and I don't know where I'd be without it. (Reading a lot less manga, I suspect.)

Oh, wow. /o\ I mean, that makes sense in some ways but also terrifying! Particularly if you're not a native speaker, haha. Or mebe that's just me. (That would be a shame!)

I just found this site, which has Jump chapter raws for online viewing. It must be pretty new, because I just found it by searching for "raw manga" on google and it was like the second result, but I've searched before and never seen it.

I felt the same about the SZS anime - it was f-ing hilarious to begin with, and then quickly became derivative after the first 13 eps, or however long the first season was.

Your reading Crimson Hero is reminding me that I'd really like to finish it! I read it when it was running in Shojo Beat here in the US, but then when the magazine stopped running, I stopped reading it. I should get it from the library, :O

Yeah, I honestly don't understand how Zetsubou-sensei ran for 30 volumes. I mean, I realise that it probably does work a lot better getting it chapter by chapter, but still. It's the same gimmick over and over and over.

Yeah, I think it actually ended in November or somewhere around then. The final volume will be out next month.

Naruto and Bleach both seem close to ending, too, at which point I guess I will only be following One Piece! Nothing currently running in Jump seems that interesting to me, but maybe that will change.
