Daily Happiness

1. I can't remember if I posted about this the other day when I got them, but I got a nice sized bag of mikans for a buck. They're all pretty dodgy looking and I had to toss out one moldy one right away, but I had a couple tonight and they were good. :) So hopefully there will be more good ones than duds.

2. Speaking of fruit, I still have tons of bananas and they're all long past the stage where I would just want to eat them, but there's no way I have room in the freezer to store them all as I usually do with old bananas. But then I realised I could just go ahead and mash them up now, put them in ziploc baggies, and then put them in the freezer, so I did that and now I have three bags of mashed bananas for whenever I want to make muffins next. :D

3. I joined this language-learning site called Duolingo and it's really fun! I have been wishing I remembered more Spanish, because I have one Spanish-speaking coworker who really doesn't speak much English, and we also sometimes get Spanish-speaking customers who don't speak English, so it would be nice to be able to communicate better. I remember a lot of nouns, which can be helpful, but even though I remember some verbs, I have totally forgotten how to conjugate, and my mind tries to fill in the cracks with Japanese, which just makes for even more of a mess than if I'd gone with English in the first place. :p Anyway, I hadn't really given much thought to trying to brush up (other than "it would be nice"), but [personal profile] inkstone linked to this site today and I clicked and got totally hooked. XD

4. One of the things I want to do this year is try and be better about commenting. It's so easy to just read my flist and not interact, especially when I'm busy and trying to catch up quickly, but I'd really like to comment more, and I think I've been doing a pretty good job!

5. Oh! Also it was payday yesterday and I definitely got paid for not working on Christmas day. :D (The whole holiday pay thing has been so vague I really wasn't sure if it would show up or not.) And I asked my boss today what I need to do to get my paid time off that I earned from working New Year's day, and whether or not I could apply that to one of my regular days off (or would I have to take a third day off), and he said he didn't know if that was okay or not, so I emailed the HR guy and hopefully will hear back Monday. (I also asked HR for a list of which holidays our company considers holiday-pay holidays, so I can know ahead of time.)

Duolingo looks interesting. I'm definitely going to check it out later, as I'm sad that I've lost so much of the Spanish and Japanese I learned in school. Which means I'm also bad to talk to myself in a mixture of both plus English. It's pretty funny sometimes.

Oh, man, I love Duolingo! I've slacked off with the new job and all, but I should get back into it. Such a cool concept.

Also, yay, company paid holidays! :D

Oooooh, Duolingo looks great. I've been wanting some language practice, and I'll have to see if that works for me. *___*

Oh, that's cool--thanks for the link! I'm always thinking I should work at keeping my Spanish from getting rusty(er), but I never do anything about it. This is fun!
