First off, here's a couple non-Yuletide fics in these two fandoms that I read a while back and never got around to posting:

Summary: They were born Dipper and Polaris, two bodies of starlight adrift in the summer sky, twins. They slept beside one another on that first night, fitful in their incubators, wrapped in blue blankets. Their bodies were identical: the same birthmark on their foreheads, the same blood type in their tiny veins. But Polaris' eyes were so bright and steady, and Dipper's so shifty and curious, that it wasn't difficult to tell them from each other. Dipper grew up knowing he was different from Polaris, but not as different as Polaris suspected she was from Dipper.

I teared up while reading this. Now trans girl!Mabel is going to be my headcanon.

Summary: Norman has no idea how to ask Neil out on a date and Mitch is the Least Helpful Ever. A lot of awkward ensues.

For some reason the popular pairing for this fandom is Norman/Dipper, a crossover with Gravity Falls, and while I love Gravity Falls and can see why people would write crossovers with the two fandoms, it makes me sad that in what is already a teensy fandom there's not more of the pairing I want to read, which is awkward adorable BFFs Norman and Neil. Anyway! This is cute, though sadly the only fic I can find for the pairing.

And now for Yuletide. I really had high hopes for these fandoms, especially Gravity Falls, since a lot of people requested it, but there were only a handful of fics. :(

This one was really fun. I love the Wendy POV and Mabel is also super awesome. I would read more fic about Wendy and Mabel in a band.

Maybe I would like this one better if I was familiar with Psychonauts (the crossover character from it has a much larger role than those from ParaNorman and Coraline, yet is the only one I didn't know), but I don't know. The whole bit with Lil Gideon felt very hand-wavey (no real explanation of what the spell was, or what Gideon was trying to do, and it takes two seconds to catch him).

Summary: Norman Babcock knows he's weird. It's a thing he's come to accept. But when things start getting out of hand again, will he be able to find some support?

This is more of a prologue than a full fic, and the author admits as much in their notes. It doesn't do too badly at standing on its own, though. But overall I'm just not really invested in crossing over all these fandoms, and the fic seems more interested in that aspect than what's going on with Norman's powers.

This fic made me so angry! >:( It's well-written and really interesting but it's unfinished! I'm not the recipient, so I'm not going to complain to the mods, but it's really fucking annoying. And it would have been so easy to not do that, too. The fic starts to wrap up and then the author introduces another element right at the end and then leaves it on a cliffhanger. If they were running up against the deadline and didn't have time to finish it, they should have just cut that new plotline out and wrapped it up where it was.
