Chapter Summary: While on the hunt for the diary, Sei and Rin are attacked by a mysterious group of men, forcing the two to work together.

Chapter 57
torachan: onoda sakamichi from yowamushi pedal with a huge smile (onoda smile)
1. I 100% prefer having my regular days off being split up to the more traditional five days of work, two days off set-up, but I have to say, it's really nice having two days off in a row occasionally! So many times today I just remembered that I have tomorrow off, too, and it was such a great feeling.

2. We took a load of cans and bottles over to the recycling plant and got $26! Not bad.

3. We used some of that cash to buy doughnuts tonight at DK's (they're cash only) and now there are doughnuts for breakfast tomorrow.

4. It's gotten to be pretty chilly weather again, almost too chilly! But I'm glad that really hot day a week or so ago was just a one-off and not the start of summer. I'm not ready for heat yet! (Or ever.)

5. Look at this sweetie Jasper all curled up and innocent looking!

What are you currently reading?
Same as last week, The Invisible Library and The New Jim Crow, both of which I've made good progress on. I'm over halfway through The Invisible Library and about a quarter of the way through The New Jim Crow.

What did you recently finish reading?
I finally picked up my ipad and read some manga today! I think part of why I've been dragging my feet on manga is that I'm not hugely enjoying what I'm reading right now. I have several volumes of Saint Oniisan as I apparently hadn't read it in a few years, so I thought I'd read them all and get caught up, but I just don't love this series anymore. It's gone on too long and isn't nearly as funny as it was at first, but it's not like I completely hate it, so I don't just want to give it up either. There were a couple chapters in this one where I really did laugh out loud (the one with Jesus trying to get Buddha into Instagram was hilarious), but most of it was just kind of meh. On the one hand I want to read the next two volumes so I can be caught up and have one less folder on my ipad, but maybe I should take a break and read something else instead.

What do you think you'll read next?
Scrolling through what's on my ipad, apparently I have three volumes of Kimi in Todoke to catch up on, so I think I'll read those next and give Saint Oniisan a break!
torachan: john from homestuck looking shocked (john shocked)
1. I posted manga! I really wasn't expecting to have that back from the typesetter so soon, so that was a nice surprise.

2. Not only is tomorrow my usual day off, but I have Friday off as well! We are going to see a baseball game Friday night, so I was already planning to get off early, but then I thought, well, let me just see if I can take the whole day off, and there's not anything major going on, so I can!

3. We had gyoza and edamame for dinner. I never make them from scratch, just buy the bag of frozen ones, so it's really a pretty easy meal to make, and so delicious.

4. Look at this sweet sleepy Chloe!

Summary: Five years ago, pro wrestler Fuji Kaoru disappeared one day before a match. Now she shows up at her old gym out of the blue, with a five-year-old daughter in tow. But not everyone is willing to welcome her back with open arms.

Chapter Summary: Fuji's family really wants to meet her ex.

Chapter 12: Do You Want to See Your Daddy?
torachan: close-up of a sleepy kitten face (sleepy molly)
1. We had strawberries with whipped cream after dinner tonight and they were so good! The first really tasty berries of the season, I think.

2. I got another chapter of manga finished up tonight. I have several chapters out for typesetting, so hopefully one of those will be ready to post soon.

3. Last night and tonight I got in a lot of cuddling with Molly. She often comes up on my desk for pettings, but sometimes finds it hard to calm down and just get petted, but both nights she lay down on my desk and I was able to cuddle her as I petted and gave her lots of tummy scritchings too.

torachan: (Default)
1. I got my hair cut today! Haven't got it cut since early February, so it was getting really shaggy and annoying, but as usual I was dragging my feet about actually doing it. I'm so glad to finally get it done, though!

2. I had a pretty relaxing day off. Did some housework and translation and just chilled out.

3. I also played a little bit of Zelda, though not much. I decided I want to concentrate on farming stuff to upgrade my armor, so I wasn't doing anything super exciting. I haven't really been using the camera function much, but I figured it would be helpful to set a tracker for whatever I'm trying to farm at the moment, so I did get it out and take pictures of a few things. I needed like forty electric Lizalfos tails, lol. Thankfully those guys are all over the place in the desert so I'm down to just needing like ten more. I also got one more shrine quest done in the desert while I was there, and accidentally stumbled across another shrine, too. Just twelve shrines left to go!

4. Carla took a picture of me with Jasper. :)

torachan: palmon smiling (palmon)
1. Super hectic weekend at work, following a super hectic week, so I'm reeeeeeeally glad for my day off tomorrow!

2. I was worn out after work but still managed to get a chapter of manga translated tonight.

3. I love the way Chloe likes to chill with her arms stretched out like this.

torachan: brandon flowers of the killers with the text "some beautiful boy to save you" (some beautiful boy to save you)
1. It was really hot today, but it looks like it's supposed to drop down a lot tomorrow and even more as the week goes on. (And at least I was at work in the air conditioning while it was hot!)

2. We've been trying to get back into the habit of taking a walk every night and have taken one every day for over a week. I'm really hoping we can keep this up.

3. Look at these two cutie snugglers!

torachan: onoda sakamichi from yowamushi pedal with a huge smile (onoda smile)
1. Season 5 of Arrested Development was announced! I know season 4 was far from universally liked, but I loved it, so I'm really looking forward to another Netflix season.

2. As of today I've read 24 books this year, so I went ahead and changed my goal on Goodreads from 30 to 40.

3. I didn't end up having to go in to work at all today!

4. I didn't play much Zelda, but I did do the Yiga Clan hideout quest, so now I can do my last divine beast if I want to, though I will probably hold off for a while and do a bit more side-questing and shrine-searching, just because having all four divine beasts done seems so final.

5. Molly got up on the top bookshelf last night and I got lots of super cute pics of her exploring, including this one with Mr Meeseeks (sadly blurry, though). I moved him to a different shelf after taking the picture, though, so he didn't get knocked down.

What are you currently reading?
Still reading The Invisible Library and am about a third of the way through.

I also started reading The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Color Blindness, which is something I've wanted to read for a long time, and Carla just happened to find it at a Little Library the other day! I only read the intro so far, but I'm really looking forward to reading more.

What did you recently finish reading?
I finished two books! Finally, finally, finally finished The Mayor of Castro Street, which I started reading in early February. Although I found it slow going sometimes, it really was interesting. I was basically totally unfamiliar with any of the events, except the basic fact that Harvey Milk was a local politician in San Francisco and had been murdered.

This happened when I was really little, so I wasn't paying attention to politics or news of any sort at the time, but it's also so recent that it was never covered in school (all my US history classes ended around World War II). Aside from Milk himself, I'd had no idea that Jim Jones was active in San Francisco politics like that. My only awareness of him is as a wacko cult leader who convinced hundreds of his followers to commit suicide, so it was surprising to see people taking him seriously (even as they thought he was a bit odd).

I also just finished reading Yuge!: 30 Years of Doonesbury on Trump, another Little Library find!

Honestly, before recent political happenings, Donald Trump was not really on my radar at all. Of course I'd heard the name, and could have told you he was rich and that there's been some scandal with his first wife Ivana and his mistress Marla Maples, and that he had funny hair, but that's probably about it. Now he's unavoidable and utterly terrible and ridiculous, and it's interesting to look back at these strips going all the way back to the '80s, and see that he was pretty much the same back then, just on a smaller stage.

I also have very little familiarity with Doonesbury. I never read the funnies much growing up, and when I did, I skipped over the ones with ongoing plotlines and read things like Far Side or Garfield instead, so while I was aware of Doonesbury and could pick it out of a lineup based on the art style, I have no idea who any of these characters are or what other plotlines are going on besides the Trump theme here. So it was a little confusing in that regard, but not to the point of making it unenjoyable.

It was an interesting read and I'm glad I picked it up, but I think people who are already fans of Doonesbury or people who have more familiarity with Trump through the years and can link real life events to the portrayal in the comic would get more from this than me.

What do you think you'll read next?
The two books I've got in progress, for sure, and maybe one of these days I'll actually read some more manga again? idk why, but it seems like I'm always either in book mode or manga mode, and I just haven't been picking up the ipad lately.
torachan: an avatar of me done scott pilgrim style (scott pilgrim style me)
1. Posted the second-to-last chapter of Himegoto! I can't believe it's almost done.

2. The ebook of volume one of Fulldrum was released today so we finally have good copies to work from and a proper cover illustration and such, yay. (Sadly we are almost certainly going to get ahead of the tankobon release again, considering this has only six chapters, but oh well.)

3. Work was super busy today, and working Thursday completely screwed with my sense of what day it is, but it looks like I can (mostly) take tomorrow off. I have to go in around closing to help lock up, but other than that shouldn't have to go it. (Hopefully.)

4. This Chloe tongue!!

Summary: This is the story of three college freshmen with secrets: Yuki, aka Yoshiki, a boyish girl who gets off on wearing her old high school uniform skirt; Mikako, who acts innocent around her classmates, but at night pretends to be a 15-year-old and has sex for money; and finally there's Kaito, who's obsessed with Mikako to the point of dressing up like her.

Chapter Summary: Kaito and Yuki race to the hotel to rescue Mikako.

Chapter 99: Dissolution
torachan: arale from dr slump with a huge grin on her face (arale)
1. We were maybe looking at some car repairs that could have cost around $700, but it didn't end up being that bad and was only $200, plus they washed the car before giving it back to us. Considering I have not gotten around to washing the car a single time since we bought it over a year ago, I'm pretty happy about that. XD (And also really happy about it not costing as much as we'd feared!)

2. I have to go to work tomorrow even though it's supposed to be my day off, but I can go in a little later if I want, so there's that at least.

3. Finally got the second to last chapter of Himegoto translated, so hopefully I can get that posted in the next few days.

4. I love this picture of Jasper so much. The little furless patch on his chin!

torachan: (Default)
This Jasper cat is such a cutie!

torachan: tavros from homestuck dressed as pupa pan (pupa pan)
1. I felt kind of groggy earlier in the day, so I didn't really get a lot done, but I did get some translating done this evening, and also posted some manga, so I feel good about that.

2. We got pizza for dinner and it was delicious.

3. I played a bit of Zelda tonight and got like four or five shrines done. One of them was the one where you have to ride a deer to the shrine pedestal to make it open up and I had tried before to catch a deer with no luck, and then today I decided to go at night in my Sheikah armor so I'd be stealthy and also have the night speed up bonus, and I was just running along and leapt off a cliff right onto the back of a buck! Without even meaning to! I saw there were a bunch of deer below me and noticed one of them was a buck (the only kind of deer that will work for the quest) and meant to land next to him and try to mount, but I just supremely lucked out and landed right on him. XD And I have my stamina maxed out so it was easy to tame him once I was on, and then I just trotted over to the shrine pedestal and tada!

4. I hardly ever get all three cats in one photo, because Molly is usually off doing her own thing (or if she and Chloe are together, Jasper is somewhere else), but I snapped a quick shot of them together today.

Summary: Sickly Kishida Jun has the ability to see ghosts, but in his opinion, it's a stupid power and nothing good ever comes of it. Considering the number of grisly situations he seems to find himself in after the ghost of his childhood friend Hayakawa Ryoko starts following him around, he may have a point.

Chapter Summary: Flashback to when Hayakawa was still alive. A classmate who'd been stalking her tries to commit suicide by setting himself on fire, but instead of making things better for her, it only seems to get worse...

Chapter 13: Memories of a Snowy Day

There's also a full volume download for those who want it.
torachan: a kitten looking out the window (chloe in window)
1. Day off tomorrow! I'm probably going to have to work straight through to Saturday this week instead of having my usual day off on Thursday, so I will enjoy tomorrow by doing nothing and relaxing.

2. I got a one-shot posted that I have been working on for yeeeeeeears. So glad to finally get it finished up and posted!

3. I love the way Chloe has her paws folded here!

torachan: (Default)
Somehow it's been three years since I released the first story in this collection of one shots. I don't know how that happened. Anyway, this one is long (90 pages!) so I guess that's my excuse. :p

Summary: Rika and Itou meet at the restaurant they both work at after school. Rika finds Itou scary and intimidating at first, but as he opens up to her, she soon finds herself falling for him. But when Itou announces he's quitting due to his mother's health, Rika is devastated...

One and Only
torachan: my glitch character (glitch)
1. Work was really, really stressful today but I think stuff got sorted out and hopefully it's going to work out okay.

2. I finished a book I'd been reading since February, so that felt like a big accomplishment.

3. I don't have to stay at work until closing tomorrow, but I don't have to go in early, either. The sweet spot!

4. Look at this! He's almost as big as her!
