torachan: arale from dr slump with a huge grin on her face (arale)
1. I spent a lot of today with a cuddly kitten sleeping on me. Because of this I got no scanlation stuff done at all, but it wasn't a bad trade-off.

2. Tonight Molly came up on my desk for pettings for the first time since we brought Jasper home. And she did it while I was sitting here holding Jasper! So I was holding him in one arm and petting her with the other and everybody was happy.

3. Molly was curled up so cutely on the sofa this evening.

torachan: a cartoon bear eating a large sausage (magical talking bear prostitute)
1. So much rain. O_o This is really, really good for the drought, but omg so much rain. I spent a huge chunk of this afternoon and evening trying to mop up leakage at work. I called around a couple places and sandbags were sold out, but Home Depot did still have sand and empty bags, so I went over there and got a ton of sand and a ton of bags and made up a bunch of sandbags. It made me really glad that despite the generally bad condition of this house, we don't have any leaks at home.

2. I needed some cash for something and I didn't have any cash, and then I had to go to Home Depot and buy $70 worth of sandbag supplies, for which I then reimbursed myself from petty cash, so now I have plenty of cash! That worked out well.

3. Look at this sweetiepie!

torachan: maru the cat giving the side eye (maru side eye)
1. As much as I've been enjoying the rain, it was nice to have a break from it today.

2. I hired a new person at work today, someone to help with some of the office stuff that isn't getting done, and maybe do some other random stuff around the store. Hopefully she works out!

3. I got another chapter of manga finished up this evening. I have Monday off and no big plans, so I'm hoping to get the last of this month's chapters done then.

4. This afternoon Carla texted me a picture...Molly and Jasper curled up on the sofa together! They weren't quite touching, but were happily curled up right next to each other. What sweeties!

torachan: ryu from kimi ni todoke eating ramen (ramen)
1. It rained so much today. So much! And there was so much leaking at work, which was less happy-making and more of a huge pain in the ass, but I'm still excited about all this rain. At least we don't have any leaks at home.

2. Each day brings the kitties a little closer. Today Molly and Jasper were both chilling on the sofa together for a little while. Not cuddled up or anything, but it's progress!

3. I got my W-2 today at work and came home and did my taxes right away and now I just sit back and wait for the refunds to roll in! It's enough to pay off one more credit card, so I'm excited about that.

4. We got this little scratching post/perch a few months back on clearance at Target and the girls played with the attached feathery toy until it was destroyed (which took very little time) and completely ignored the scratching post and perch aspects of it, but Jasper is loving it. He hops up on top and likes to look around.

torachan: ewan mcgregor pulling his glasses down to look over the top (ewan glasses)
1. It rained so much last night, but was clear today when we had to go out and do stuff. That's the best kind of rain!

2. We went to Portillo's for lunch. The closest one around here is in Orange County, so it's not exactly somewhere you'd go just for that, but we happened to be down that way for other stuff, so we stopped for lunch on the way back.

3. I'm so happy the cats all seem to be settling in so well. There hasn't been any snuggling between the girls and Jasper yet, but I think it could happen any time.

4. We cleaned out the tupperware* cupboard in the kitchen tonight and got rid of so many ones we never use, as well as a bunch of random lids with no containers. (*Approximately zero of them are actual tupperware.)

5. Look at this little furball!

torachan: close-up of a sleepy kitten face (sleepy molly)
1. It rained today and is supposed to rain a lot for the next few days!

2. This morning I got up from my chair here in the computer room and realised my pants were wet and at first I was afraid Jasper had peed on the blanket that's on my chair, but upon closer inspection, it didn't smell like pee, just cat food, so either he barfed a bit or stepped in his food and wiped it on the blanket, either of which is better than him peeing on something.

3. Tonight after I got off work, we went down to the mall to go to Cheesecake Factory. We just got an appetizer and cheesecake, but even the appetizer ended up being too filling for us to eat the cheesecake, so we brought that home and were still too full all night to eat any, so we still have it for tomorrow. The appetizer we got was their nachos, which were delicious. Really thick, crunchy, salty chips with lots of tasty toppings.

4. We also went to Hot Topic and the Disney Store while we were down there, and apparently that Hot Topic is going out of business, so everything was 50% off. Carla got a Stitch mug, Pikachu earrings, and some other stuff, all for super cheap.

5. Look at this sleepy Molly. So relaxed up on the top shelf where no kittens can bother her.

Chapter 13: Enough Said
torachan: scott pilgrim pouting (scott pilgrim - pout)
1. With the bedroom closed off, Jasper hasn't had any other accidents.

2. Carla got the baby gate taken to the UPS store today. We didn't even open the package (in fact, I had tried to cancel the order before it was shipped, but it was too late). It was only $16, but I'm glad that's one less thing we need.

3. I have fallen back into the bad habit of not eating much in the way of veggies again lately and my digestive system is not happy about it, so I'm trying to get back to eating salads for dinner several times a week and I had a delicious one tonight. Having a huge salad for lunch every day is one thing I really miss from my days of working from home. Now I don't even eat any meals at work, maybe just a quick snack, because I never have time to sit and eat, but even when I did take a lunch break, I never felt like taking a salad because it's a pain in the ass.

4. Carla caught Jasper just as he was about to yawn and he looks super adorable.

torachan: a kitten looking out the window (chloe in window)
1. At some point yesterday, Jasper had an accident on the bed again and we didn't notice until we went to bed and smelled it. So this time we moved his carrier and food into the computer room and are just keeping the bedroom closed at all times until he has a chance to forget that behavior. He doesn't mind us closing the door (though he does sometimes try to get in there when we open it), but Chloe does not like us being in there without her and will scratch and bang on the door to make her displeasure known. >_<

However, it hasn't been as bad as I was fearing. She made noise when she wanted to be fed in the morning, and once again after that when she felt we'd been in there too long after I went back to bed after feeding her, but she didn't do it during the night, and she doesn't seem to care when we're not in there, so that means she's not doing it during the day.

In addition to washing all the blankets again today (ugh, I hate to think of how much water we've wasted on washing blankets in the past few days!), we plan to take the comforter to get professionally cleaned, so hopefully between those things, that will end the accidents.

2. We went to Target today to get another litter box because the ones we got this week were just whatever they had at the supermarket, which are quite small. It's fine for Jasper, but the girls definitely seem cramped, and the sides are low so it's easier to scatter litter. (And Jasper only seems to want to use the large one! For all everyone was saying get him his own box, he only wants to use the one they use, lol. But the girls have been using the small one we put by the back door in addition to the big one.) But then Target was out of the large ones, too! However, I did get another scoop, so I don't have to keep going back to the computer room to get the scoop when I need to scoop the other box.

And even better, I got new jeans! I have been wearing an emergency pair that was just the only thing I could find when my previous ones tore and they really fit badly. It's easier to find jeans now that I'm in regular sizes and not "big and tall", but I was looking for a 40 or 42, which can still be difficult to find (and to find good fitting ones). Well, today on a whim I decided to try on a pair of 38s and they fit so well! Best fitting jeans I've worn maybe since I was in high school or college. And they had a second pair, so I grabbed those as well. They're super comfy and the material is not too heavy and they're close fitting but not so "skinny" that I can't fit stuff in my pockets (which is why I had to stop buying the kind I liked at Old Navy several years ago, because they changed the pockets) and they don't fall down all the time and I actually look pretty good in them! I also found two nice Star Wars t-shirts.

3. We went out to lunch with my aunt Amy who is visiting from Minnesota. She's only eleven years older than me, so she's been more like an older sister to me and she's the only one of my immediate family who's not an ultra conservative Christian so I really wish I could see her more often, but she moved to Oregon when I was in junior high and then moved from there to Minnesota a few years ago. It was really good seeing her and we had a nice lunch.

4. I posted manga (three chapters!) and finished translating chapters of two other things, which will hopefully be posted in the near future as well.

5. This warm bundle of kitten slept on me a lot today.

(I really need to make a Jasper icon! And also some new Chloe and Molly icons because the ones I have are of them at about Jasper's age!)
torachan: yoshiki from himegoto (himegoto)

Summary: This is the story of three college freshmen with secrets: Yuki, aka Yoshiki, a boyish girl who gets off on wearing her old high school uniform skirt; Mikako, who acts innocent around her classmates, but at night pretends to be a 15-year-old and has sex for money; and finally there's Kaito, who's obsessed with Mikako to the point of dressing up like her.

Chapter Summary: Kaito has one last chance to choose.

Chapter 89: Smile
Chapter 90: Pain
Chapter 91: Reflection
torachan: an avatar of me done scott pilgrim style (scott pilgrim style me)
1. There's only one guy on Sunday mornings who can drive the forklift and today he went home sick before the truck came, so I had to go in around 8:30 for the delivery (when I normally go in around 11 on Sundays), which was not what I wanted to be doing with my morning, but at least I was already awake and at my desk, not awakened by the phonecall, and it meant I got home earlier than I usually do on Sundays.

2. I have tomorrow off, which means more time to spend with Jasper!

3. There was a new Simpsons tonight (a two-parter, actually) and it was pretty good! This season has been more miss than hit for me, but this was one of the better ones.

4. I got this super cute pic of Chloe yesterday. I walked by her and was like omg don't move! and ran to get my camera and thankfully she hadn't moved.

torachan: karkat from homestuck looking bored (karkat bored)
1. Chloe and Jasper played a lot today! Mostly chasing around the house, which is good, because Chloe is always wanting someone to chase her. And Molly came over to examine him once when he was in quiet mode (he had just been sleeping until she came in the room). She didn't get right up close, but was a couple feet away. Progress!

2. Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask finally arrived in the mail yesterday. I've gotten so spoiled by Prime that it's really annoying to order things from other websites or (as in this case) from non-Prime shippers. But since Miracle Mask is no longer being published, my choices were rather limited and the Prime shippers were all much more expensive. Anyway, I've only played a little bit so far, but am of course enjoying it.

I had to turn off 3D for it, though, as I do with most games. The problem with 3D is if you move the 3DS even a tiny bit (or move your eyes the wrong way), everything gets blurry and out of focus, and I always seem to be moving it. But in order to make things 3D, they changed the art style a bit and the graphics don't look as good (even in 3D, the characters look polygon-y). So that's a bummer. Also if there are puzzles that require 3D I guess I'll have to be turning it on and off.

3. Look at this cutie little guy! He likes to hop into my chair as soon as I get up.

torachan: a happy cartoon guy with the text "it's like a blast of happy up my ass" (blast of happy in my ass)
1. We have tickets to see Puffy AmiYumi in April! We saw them once before here in LA like fifteen years or so ago and I know they've played here since then, but this time we have the money and there was no conflicting plans or anything, so I bought the tickets! I actually didn't even know they were still together, but apparently they had a new album fairly recently, so I should listen to that at some point soon.

2. There was no bed-wetting this morning! We put Jasper to sleep in his carrier last night but left the door open. At some point in the early hours of the morning he joined us in bed for a while (no peeing) and then went back to his carrier until Chloe came in around eight to tell me it was breakfast time, at which point he bounded out and went and used the litter box while I got their breakfast. So I really think the problem was that when we had the carrier closed, he was so excited when we let him out that he just wanted to play and didn't realize he needed to pee until it was happening.

3. The kitties are all making really good progress at getting along. Yesterday he and Chloe were showing some progress, but Molly was inside the sofa pretty much all day and didn't really come out for any length of time until we turned off the lights and TV in the living room and started getting ready for bed.

But today she spent most of the day outside of the sofa (though lots of it on high shelves where Jasper can't reach) and generally did her usual thing, while staying away (but not running away) from Jasper. She also sniffed around a lot, which is good, getting used to the fact that everything smells like him now.

Chloe and Jasper have been getting even closer. They even touched noses at one point today, though they immediately jumped back afterwards. They have also been playing a lot of friendly chase around the house. So overall things are progressing really well! The baby gate came today, but I'm just returning it because there's no need to keep them separated anymore and he probably could climb it anyway.

4. We pre-ordered the Nintendo Switch! I still haven't had a chance to watch the new video from last night, but I did watch the new Zelda trailer and the trailer for Mario Odyssey and a few other games, several of which we've also pre-ordered already (though it looks like Mario won't actually be out until the end of the year).

5. Molly and Chloe up on a high shelf to avoid Jasper.

torachan: nepeta from homestuck (nepeta)
1. Well, it has been hard to get any translating done this week with all the cat stuff going on, but I did get some done today. (And hopefully maybe have a Himegoto release within the next few days.)

2. We bought Carla a new comforter today and also just in case, a waterproof mattress liner, so at least if he does pee the bed again, it won't soak through to the mattress itself. But I really, really hope he uses the box in the morning! He has no problems at all using it during the day, and pooped and peed many times today (I forgot how much kittens poop!). We're experimenting with putting him to bed in his carrier (which he does associate with sleeping now, and even goes in there for naps on his own during the day) but not closing the door, so hopefully there won't be the same excitement of being let out in the morning, and he can go use the box if he needs to before getting up on the bed and playing.

3. Carla has a doctor's appointment in the morning, so I've already told work I won't be in until afternoon, that way I can be here while she's gone. It also has the advantage of me maybe getting to sleep a bit longer in the morning. Due to kitten pee shennanigans, I only got like four hours of sleep last night.

4. I made brownies tonight and we had some with ice cream and it was so delicious. I honestly can't remember the last time I had brownies.

5. Look at this sweetie! He's like a tiny little fuzzy soot ball.

torachan: (Default)
So this morning for the third time in a row, Jasper peed on the bed. ;_; He has used the litter box successfully during the day for both peeing and pooping, but in the morning right after we let him out of his carrier, even though there is a litter box right in the room, he ignores it to jump up on the bed and play with us. And each time he has ended up peeing on Carla. XD

We have done so much laundry the past couple days! She sleeps with about four blankets and they're all large (one is a comforter) so most of them can't be washed together, so that's like three loads per accident. We cleaned the bed with enzyme cleaner, but didn't think to put it in the wash with the blankets, but I'm doing that this time. I also read that it's a good idea to take the blanket he peed on out of circulation, so we'll be doing that, too.

I'd like to keep him out of the bedroom at night for a while, but I'm not sure, logistically how we can do that. I ordered a gate for the door last night on Amazon and we were thinking of using that and keeping him in the bedroom without putting him in the carrier, but ideally I would like to put him in the bathroom instead. The problem there is that the bathroom door is too narrow for this gate (or indeed any gate I saw on Amazon except for the ones with really large slats that he would be able to get right through).

We're going to Bed, Bath, and Beyond today to look for a new comforter for Carla, so I might check out their gates there (I don't think they have any specifically for pets, but they do have a baby section).

Also we were told not to let him have fish because their tummies can't handle it until they're about four months, but we unthinkingly put out salmon for the girls' dinner last night and they didn't eat it all right away (they're used to grazing, even on wet food) and I caught him eating it several times. I picked him up each time and took him back to his own food, but it was clearly enough to give him tummy trouble and he had diarhea-ish poop last night and this morning, which he managed to accidentally step in both times while trying to cover it, necessitating washing his paws in the sink, which he was not a fan of. :(

We put away all the fish-based food for now, though, and will just be giving the girls meat ones, too, for the time being. (They can always have some fish for treats.)
torachan: a cartoon kitten with a surprised/happy expression (chii)
1. I got a call at six this morning from the person who's supposed to open the store on Wednesdays, that she was having car trouble and would be late. So I had to go in at 6:30 to open the store for the janitor, but luckily I didn't have to actually stay at work then, just wait until the first employee got there and leave, so I was back home before seven and was able to go back to bed for a bit. (See, this kind of thing is why I am really glad to live so close to the store!)

2. It is really, really pouring tonight. (And thankfully wasn't raining when I was going to work or coming home.)

3. It's my day off tomorrow and I can spend all day with my kitties!

4. Alexander was over this evening and Jasper took to him immediately. He is just such a friendly little kitten! He just wants to snuggle and play all the time.

torachan: a chibi drawing of sawko, kazehaya, and maru from kimi ni todoke (sawako/kazehaya)
1. I may be getting a lot more reading done in the near future, considering how little else I can get done when there is a kitten sleeping on me, and how much he seems to like sleeping on me. XD

2. Kitties are all still wary, but they are getting closer to each other than they were yesterday, so I'll take that as a good sign. (Some hissing still involved, but they are willing to be within just a few feet of each other, especially if Jasper is being quiet (if he's hyper, the girls are likely to just go and hide somewhere for the duration)).

3. We had a delicious dinner of steak, yellow rice, and broccoli tonight. So simple but so tasty!

4. It rained pretty hard this evening and is supposed to rain the next couple days. I honestly can't remember the last time it rained this much. It's been years.

5. When I see these two snuggling like this I can't help but hope that it will eventually be all three of them snuggling together!

torachan: john from garfield wearing a party hat and the text "this is boring with hats" (this is boring with hats)
1. We finally went to see Rogue One this morning and it was awesome! I had somehow managed to be almost entirely unspoiled and honestly didn't even know much about the plot except that it involved the Death Star. Now I want to watch A New Hope, which I haven't seen in ages.

2. When we got out of the theater, I finally had an email from the pet rescue...with bad news. The people fostering Rudy had decided they couldn't bear to part with him after all and were going to keep him. Carla and I were both really upset, especially her, since she had really just felt an instant connection with him. Plus having made the decision to get another cat we didn't want to wait any longer.

So after some crying, we decided to go to a pet store over in Culver City that we always pass by that has adoptions every day. They had a lot of kitties there, and had special play rooms where you could take them and play with them first and after spending a little time with a sweet little kitten, we knew we had found another match.

We named him Jasper (original name, Noodle). He's a lot younger than Rudy, only about two and a half months, but he's also a black cat, and is sooooooo cuddly. I really hope the girls end up learning to love cuddles by watching him. He's also so curious. And loves to climb. He was climbing all over us and over everything in the house he could reach. After that photo above, he actually fell asleep right there on my shoulder for a while!

The girls are not happy about him. Molly just went and hid most of the afternoon and evening, and Chloe nosed around but every time she got anywhere near him, either he or she started hissing. (She also hissed at me once when I picked her up, presumably because I smelled to much like Other Cat.)

For the night, we've got him in the cat carrier. We have a fairly large one that's big enough to put a small tray of litter, along with some dry food and water, and still have room for a nice sleeping spot. He settled down as soon as we got him in there, so I think that will be good for him. He was very sleepy but unable to settle down with the whole house to explore, so this will help him get some sleep while also letting the girls be able to walk around the house freely without having to encounter him.

Oh, and even though he's such a tiny little guy, he's already been fixed and is all healed up and everything. They had another black male cat about one year old who had just come in recently and was not yet fixed, so they said we'd have to wait a couple days if we wanted him. We were considering, but we really wanted a cat today, and Jasper was so excited to see us and play with us even from inside his cage (and especially once we got to play with him in the play room). When I thought we were getting Rudy I was kind of relieved to get a kitten who was not a tiny baby because I do feel a bit nervous when they're that tiny, but now we get to see him grow!

He is just the sweetest thing and it's so nice having a cat who's a cuddler again! I really hope they all settle in and start getting along soon.
torachan: a cartoon bear eating a large sausage (magical talking bear prostitute)
What are you currently reading?
I'm still reading the same books as last time, Raising Steam and Their Eyes Were Watching God, though I did make some progress! I had a doctor's appointment last week and the doctor was running really late and I never get any signal in the hospital, so I just read Raising Steam a lot. I'm about 40% through with it now, and though it's definitely improved since the beginning, it is still kind of a slog. Reading it makes me really wonder if I should even bother reading the final Tiffany Aching book or not. :-/

I am also reading a new manga? manhwa? called Killing Stalking. (It's available in English, Japanese, and Korean, and it's set in Korea so I assume Korean is the original, but the site it's on is that of a Japanese publisher, so I'm not quite sure what to call it. Comic, I guess!) It's a BL series about a guy who's pretty messed up and is stalking the guy he's obsessed with, only to find out that guy is a serial killer. There are thirteen chapters so far and I'm on chapter eight. It's pretty good!

What did you recently finish reading?
Not much, but I did read one volume of a manga I'd had on my ipad for ages. I was clearing stuff off because there is no space on there, and I was going through a handful of series trying to decide if I even wanted to read them anymore, and so I just meant to read a few pages to make a decision, but ended up reading all of volume one, so I guess I will keep reading!

It's called Futsutsuka na Oyako dewa Arimasu ga and is a pretty cheesy tale of a girl who has a hard life and is rescued by a rich old man who decides to adopt her as his grandson's daughter, and is very clearly eventually going to lead to a romance between her and her adoptive father.

What do you think you'll read next?
Really just want to finish Raising Steam! D: I love Discworld and the other Moist books are my top favorites of all of them, so it's really a bummer that this one suffered so much qualitywise.
torachan: arale from dr slump with a huge grin on her face (arale)
Well, we didn't come home with a cat today, but we did fill out an application to foster to adopt a sweet little boy.

His name is Rudy and we're probably going to keep that name. This is not the one that Carla had her heart set on from the website, because that one didn't show up, but as soon as this one arrived, she fell in love with him and that was that. He's about eight months old, so a kitten but not a tiny baby, which means he's already fixed and had all his shots, so that will make things easier. He's being fostered with other cats and they said he gets along with other cats and humans well, and is a cuddler, so that all sounds good!

There were quite a few cats there this time (they are primarily a dog rescue that has some cats) including two super cute tiny kittens, a brother and sister that were being fostered together and seemed really bonded. But someone got there before us and had already claimed the boy, otherwise we honestly might have come home with two new kitties. XD

We're going the foster to adopt route just to make sure Chloe and Molly are okay with him, but we would be pretty bummed if it doesn't work out. His current foster family is supposed to contact us soon to set things up. Since we already adopted from this rescue before, they don't need to do another home visit or anything.

I hope they contact us soon! All day my brain has just been like "kitty kitty kitty kitty" and it's hard to concentrate on anything else! XD
